    Default Air compressor

Hey guys. The air compressor I have is not the best. What do you recommend that is reliable and do you mount yours under the hood or carry it around in your hand to each tire.?
Thanks for the answers ahead of time. Don

I have a SmittyBuilt compressor (the larger one) For the money I think I is one of the best you can have. I bought it at 4W-Parts, and I think for an extra $35 I added a 2 year replacement warranty. (Which I didn't need). I just pack mine with my recovery gear in a Plano box. The hose reaches all the tires just leave it in front of my vehicle hooked up to my battery.

I've had a Viair for years, no problems yet. I have the coil hose for backup but bought a regular air hose so I can hit all the tires without moving the compressor. I have not permanently mounted yet, just keep it in the bin with other equipment.

I have a viair 400P. Works great with my 33s. I would get a larger one if bigger tires.

previously used a superflow mv-50. It was fine as long as it worked. Problem was it only lasted about 2 years. I know Jim’s lasted much longer.

I think I got mine at Murdoch’s. They are available many places on the internet, not sure about other brick and mortar stores.

The first time I used my little compressor, I walked it up the trail to air someone else's tire. That was much easier than trying to drive between other vehicles.

One concern with the compressors is that they get HOT and stay overly warm longer than you want to wait for'm to cool down. Most folks don't seem to mount (I never did) but stowing them after use is a concern due to the heat.

Some mount under the hood and thus after-use cool down is never an issue.

I keep mine in a box in the back of the rig and get it out to air up. Leave it out of the box and case after airing due to heat. Put it back in while cleaning the rig the next day.

I use CO2 now, but when I used a compressor, I mounted it in an ammo can. It was nice in that it was still easily portable and even when the compressor was burning hot, I could close the lid and pack it away without worrying about melting anything. The box would get warm but not enough to harm anything.

I also use the superflow mv50...been fine for 6 plus years. If I replace I would consider stepping up to the mv90...especially for bigger tires.

By the time my tires are aired up, and sway links reconnected, and I'm done BSing with whoever, the compressor is cooled off enough to put back in its kit.

    I have a Harbor Freight compressor https://www.harborfreight.com/12v-10...sor-69284.html
    in my wife's xterra http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/...p?23868-Xterra,
it's not really for airing up after a run, it's for fixing flats. I've used it a few times without issue, and we had the same one in her old Subaru too.

Viair 400P for me as well. Bought a 50' air hose at Harbor so that I could just move around without having to move the compressor. Takes roughly 6-8 minutes to go from 12psi to 35psi on 35" tires.
