Default Miller Rock Sat 10/27 or Sun 10/28?

I've yet to visit the recently opened trail set at Miller Rock. Anyone interested for this weekend?

Saturday looks to be clear and ~72 in FoCo
Sunday looks to be cloudy in the AM and about 10F cooler (~60).

My choice would be for Sat.

    Interest?

If T-33a would want to be tacked onto the hit list - I'd be open for that (possibly via the southern end to shave Bunce time - TBD).

I'm good to go either day but will need to be off the trail and home by 4 if it's Saturday.

My pref is for Sat simply due to temps though I'll say we'll pick the day that can have the larger group..

Pipe up folks if you have a definite choice and we'll get it called.

Does anyone want to run a different trail after Miller (if there's time and interest after Miller)?

Also, at this point I'm considering exiting via the entrance and not going all of the way down to the camp's exit. Any preference?

So, my pref for the run is to visit the newly opened section of trail. It might be nice to scramble atop the rock for some 360 degree views. As for trails to the south or trails to the north - whatever the group wishes.

I could make a Sunday run, I've never run Miller Rock but Matt says it's the best trail on the Front Range. As I understand it there is just one major obstacle, a notched rock near a dropoff, but the whole thing is fun.

I think this is the spot everyone talks about:

I haven't run this trail yet either. The obstacle looks pretty intimidating in the videos I've seen. Curious what it looks like on person.

    The obstacle is credible.

On the way in, the driver has the extra visual of the edge of the trail / downslope, but down is basically easy and of little technical issue.

IMO, the path out and up is more serious - though, like James (narrow CJ5 with short wheelbase) did the last we were there - a winch line as a safety measure is reasonable. Decent articulation helps. Rear locker is nice to have. Long wheelbase, while making the turn more difficult, makes the uphill a bit smoother. Wheelstands are almost certain.

About 50 feet before the obstacle is a parking spot for perhaps three vehicles if folks want to drive much of the trail but don't wish to process the obstacle and recently opened section of trail.

    It is.

Both of those vehicles took a straight line up the obstacle. The other common option is to keep to the right / outside of the trail and just before the larger jump up, turn left and much of the way through, turn right - make a Z through it.

Both of those on the straight line had a right side sliding on the large rock with the right rear hanging in the air (cue locker comment).

There are sections where pin striping would be a concern. I've not been to the recently opened trails, which are in the trees. It'd need to get past the obstacle down to the river.

Jim, if I wasn稚 working Saturday I壇 be a 100%, that obstacle looks like a fun challenge to me. I知 probably 50% for Sunday only because after working 60hrs this week I知 not sure I値l have the motivation. I値l keep an eye on this post to see how it plays out.

Thx for that. I'm wanting to make a decision so folks can plan. I'm going to re-read and decide.

    EDIT: Sunday.

I set the time as 9am at Lyons. If a bit later would be desired, we could make it 930.

It'd be great if you joined!

There's decent parking just above the obstacle if you don't wish to run it / that section.

Though, going down isn't terrible and a winch-line on the up makes it quite easy.

I should add - the reason we're hitting the expanded trail set as the sponsoring club did two things for this season: 1) They worked to remove the obstacle which allows us to get access to the further trail and 2) they also worked on this obstacle, making it safer.

I'm not going to lie, that obstacle looks like a clear "nope" to me from videos I've seen. The shelf road / hard right at the bottom concerns me. If I get caught up on sleep and am feeling good Sunday, I'll come check it out, though I may become a passenger at that point on the trail.
