Default Any interest in Moab in June?

My 13 yo will be going to Japan for two weeks and my eldest will be in Norway at pretty much the same time. I'm going to lose my mind, so I'm thinking a trip to Moab might be just what I need to take my mind off them! Maybe leave June 8th, stay for a few days and head back. Any interest? (It might be too hot at that time, but maybe not).

That might be a match for me. Interested.

We spent that same week of June on Lake Powell last summer. It was already very hot out in the Glen Canyon / Lake Powell area by then. ~102F days and not much relief at night.

I would be very interested if it was the weekend before or the weekend after - I have a smith river trip in Montana 6/7-11. I have been thinking of heading out to Moab on 5/31 but haven't found anyone interested yet (but haven't posted here yet either). Very likely will be 100F.

Looks like the weekend before is much better for us, too. Not sure wife can get time off for June 8 weekend.

I am a bit worried about the heat factor in June because I made the mistake of going to Moab in July one time many years ago and will never do it again. I can't go any earlier than the first week of June because I need to be home in order to help my young one get ready for her trip. If not Moab, maybe Ouray would be a better option (???) I just know I want to plan on getting out somewhere other than here so I don't go nuts! I've got vacation days, so I think I'm going to request the days off regardless. Lets keep discussing the options!

I'd be interested in possibly Ouray area. It's near the top of my list of places I want to get to. Moab sounds like fun but I think it's going to be to hot sadly unless we can get out there in may sometime but that may be to short of notice for most. Will be following thread.

Edit: On a side note there is a (decent sized?) group planning on doing Ouray area first week in August, so maybe something else? I don't know. I'm open to ideas either way.

I guess Moab is not going to happen for the weekend I had hoped for. Oh, well. Maybe I'll just plan to camp up near Estes Park and hit up some of my favorite trails!

Are there any good spots for dispersed camping near water by Estes? Only ones I really know of are on Pole Hill. Great views but not much in the way of water from what I know.

Not sure about areas with water. I know Johnny Park Rd. has plenty of camping, but no water that I can remember. I think Pierson Park Rd. is dry too. But Johnny, Pierson and Pole Hill would make a fun weekend and possibly cross over to the MSV area for more!

Coney Flats has lots of water and dispersed camping! The creeks at Middle St Vrain and at Miller Rock have good wheelin and camping, not a whole lot else that I can think of near Estes with water

Miller rock has good camping at the creek, I agree, but just like last time, don't think I'm ready to take the jeep all the way down. Maybe I'll have to hike the spur we walked to the right, right before it.

While not within 10 minutes of Estes, I'll recommend Storm Mountain as a trail to visit while in the area.

Storm mountain is also great, just wish we didn't have to go all the way to Lyons, then back up through Estes to get there now. 34 isn't supposed to open back up for another couple months or am I mistaken Jim?

`looks like 34 might be open by then:
    https://www.codot.gov/projects/flood...mpson-canyon-1

US 34 remains closed to through travel until late May 2018. Most of the roadway reconstruction will be finished prior to Memorial Day, but asphalt paving and milling operations will continue throughout the canyon in the summer of 2018 with minor and intermittent traffic impacts next summer. Project completion is scheduled for December 2018.

I'm thinking of Jackie - camping up on the Peak to Peak - it'd be a fairly local trail from there.

The problem with going to Ouray any earlier than July 1st is the higher
trails that most go to see are still closed. That’s why we wanted to do it in
August. But still a great place to go! If u wanted to just get away!

You are correct, and this one is super close to me so not sure how I forgot. However, the wheelin' here is not that great and the camping near water is only at the beginning of the trail and it gets very busy...
