"We just joined the group and would be down for a trek. We just got our '71 CJ a few weeks ago. Put new springs, shocks, carb, alternator, and seats in it last weekend. Had it out Sunday around Ward and Gold Hill west of Boulder. Seems to be good to go. However, I'm not real comfortable taking it too far from home (we live near Rollinsville) until it proves itself to be dependable enough for further trips.
We have yet to explore much up here but I understand there are trails around Black Hawk, Rollinsville, and Nederland. Any would be fair game for us to get this antique out and stretch her legs.
I also have an '07 Tacoma (lifted, rock slides, winch-equipped) which has seen its fair share of dirt, rock, and folks needing winched out so we are not completely new to off-roading.
Would be nice to be with a group for a change in case something goes wrong."
Welcome neighbor! I live off the Peak to Peak Hwy, although I'm up past Allenspark. I used to live outside of Ned for many years though..... Would love to see your new '71. That's my birth year
I believe DEC 1st is technically when many of the forest roads have the seasonal closing gates.... However, I'm not sure how quickly the Forest Service will execute closing all the gates so JOHNNY PARK and others might not be open this weekend, but it's possible some might be (hoping at least).
I would be up for GORDON GULCH, CARIBOU, RAINBOW LAKES or one of these Nederland area trails this weekend, since I missed the last time (So did Tom).... I'm pretty sure GORDON is open year round just in case because the others have seasonal gates closed and would be good to have a backup plan.
Thoughts?
