Just spent some time at the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs and Salida, and we got there the long way partially on South Platte Rd. It's an awesome drive, and from now on the only way I'm going to Rampart Range. There are a lot of places to stop, the old South PLatte hotel is cool, and it's gorgeous the whole way after the pavement ends by the kiosk / Foxton rd. We took Aspen Ridge from the 285 end down to Turret and Salida, and it's incredible, can't wait to do it in the fall. There are great campsites along the way, and we only used 4wd for speed control, otherwise it was easy enough while still being a trail. Highly recommend it. Turret is no longer a ghost town it's all been bought up and built up. There are only 3 historic buildings left that we saw, nothing really worth seeing, the drive to Turret was better than Turret, its graded but really pretty. The people in Turret are less than welcoming to sightseers, do not recommend it, and I'll leave it at that. Salida is pretty cool, there was a neat lake we took our dog to. My dog is 14.5 years old and still going strong, and while it's slower and shorter hiking, she did 1.5 miles of the Colorado trail last night. In the pic of her sitting in a chair at Mt. Princeton you can just make out the Mt. Princeton 4x4 trail near her head.
