Default 2017 Spring Adopt-A-Trail Clean up run

Starting a thread here for any questions or discussion on our 2017 clean-up run on our adopted trails.

Saturday, June 24th, meet at 8:30AM at the Ranger station in Idaho Springs. Address and google map link are in the calendar where you go to RSVP that you're able to join us or not. Feel free to post any other questions etc. here, or PM me directly.

I always look forward to these clean-up runs since these runs are a great place to meet other members and actually spend a little time getting to know them as we make stops along the trail to clean up campsites, shooting areas etc. Hope to see everyone out there, the Forrest Service could not keep trails open if not for the hours put in by people like us to keep them cleaned up and beautiful for everyone to enjoy!!

Sounds like the Ranger we work with, Brant, and/or his crew will be at the Ranger Station Saturday morning to chat with us. Looking forward to possibly putting a face to an email address, LOL.

I have been asking that question for years. As a coordinator I thought some new blood for a leader would help. Even though Chad has been awesome it just seems very few want to participate. As much as it pains me to say it is looking like a very good friend of mine may need my help Saturday so I may be a no go as well.

I have also asked that question over the years Tom. Not intending to sound like a jerk but when we only had 70 members we had too many people turn out. We'd split into groups starting at each end and meet in the middle after being done in no time.

I don't know what's changed now that there are hundreds of folks here. Maybe it's a "let the other guys do it" attitude.

I think participation in a trail cleanup or the turkey run should be required for membership. I can't keep up with all the introductions, but at the same time so many trail runs die from lack of interest. If this one doesn't fill up maybe we should postpone it? 5 or 6 people on two trails is asking a lot from 5 or 6 people...

At least every few years. I haven't for the last couple of years cause it always seems to collide with the msv-coney flats clean up. That said if it was a requirement I would make a much more concerted effort to participant in one of them.

The trail clean up run was what brought me to this group, I joined after showing up to volunteer to help. Lately these runs seem to always fall on Saturday which would require wife taking time off of work. Not that it isn't possible, but it adds to the difficulty when these time off requests are supposed to be submitted a month in advance. Perhaps removing the polls to determine a date and just setting it early enough to allow everyone to work it into their schedules would help. Not sure it would because everyone seems to wait until last minute to confirm anyway (myself included lately) Working on getting things squared away to try to make it, I will again be last minute deciding.

I think Cliff has a point but the old reliables that show up for most of these aren't really the issue in my mind. It's more of a lack of interest in giving back to the Forest Service that I find disappointing. IMHO nobody can complain about trail closures if they don't do their part to help.

I've missed a number of these myself when traveling so I understand not being able to for a variety of reasons. My son also works weekends as do a number of people here and not many members can give up a days pay to be there.

I don't know the answer but we're not representing the group very well by these low turnouts.

I feel like we had about the bare minimum on every one I've been to. I have some ideas in the works that may help, but life didn't give me the time I would need to try and implement it. Maybe for the fall cleanup......and number of rigs doesn't always tell the story of how many people total we'll have. I'd take one vehicle per trail if it was a deuce and a half full of bodies.

Most people don't care enough, it's that simple. This thread shows it, only a handful of people even care enough to participate in the discussion, let alone the work. People are fans of caring, they post caring memes and facebook peace-sign selfies, but when push comes to shove they organically lack the motivation to get up and do something. Then the excuses are as passionate as the caring, and when it's over so are the thank you and wish I could have posts. This is how politics stay so ****** up too, there are all these keyboard commandos ready to change the world, but when it actually comes down to getting off the couch and doing something you see who they really are.

Hi everyone. New guy here. I've gone on Devil's Canyon before in my Grand Cherokee (stock except for duratrac tires) no problem. What about Barbour Fork, would I be able to run that trail for the cleanup with the GC?

I don't think that it is a case of not caring about giving back to the Forest Service or caring about cleaning up the trails. I don't even think that it is an issue of not caring enough to participate in a discussion about it.

For me it is a problem of just flat being to busy and already being scheduled out for almost all of the summer. With my job, I am on call every 4th week, and that is a 24x7 for 7 days. On top of that this is vacation season so we are having to trade on call weeks and cover for colleagues that are on vacation. In addition to that, I am getting a lot of work done on my house this summer, (yeah, just got electrical upgraded in the garage with a 125 amp sub panel and lots of power including 220 for a welder). I got hammered by the hail storm a few weeks ago, so am getting new roof on house and garage, new windows, garage doors and lots of other stuff, so have to be around to deal with contractors. My son is getting married in August and we are helping them out with a lot of the preparation there. Need I go on?

Wheeling, while it is my favorite hobby, and one of the things I enjoy the most, falls way down on the list of priorities and I will be lucky to get out and get any done before Sept.

As far as trail cleanups go, I have been involved in clubs and trail cleanups since "91" and fully understand the value and importance of them.

    Just my two cents...

You "should" be OK. Does your GC have 4-low?
