    Default Weekday Wheeling

Anyone interested in a trip this week? Open to any moderate or less trail suggestions. I believe a number of trails open on thurs 6/15 including DC, BF and china wall. MSV and Coney as well I think. Other possibilities that come to mind are metberry, pickle, south spring gulch area.

msv/coney wont open until at least the 25th. as the club that sponsors those trails are supposed to run it the 24-25th.

I did south spring gulch almost to the junction with saxon on Sat. Certainly passable all the way, hardly any snow, however was alone so didn't want to get too far up.

Everything in the Springs off Old Stage is open and clear of snow. Ran the majority of mt. Baldy a couple nights ago, made it to about treeline when we got to a little obstacle that Leila wasnt comfortable driving my Explorer over on such a shelf road (I was in the new big Explorer) so we backed down a ways and turned around. Only snow seen was remnants of big drifts on the side of the trail. We've been on everythin else and its all clear. Eagle Rock and Bull Park are the only 2 in the area I can think of that couldnbe considered moderate or above. If you're interested in heading down this way at anytime, its pretty easy to talk us into going we havent had much opportunity to explore much of the trails off Rampart, but we have hit rainbow falls area, one of my faves.

Chad - What do you like better: Mt Baldy or Mt Rosa? I drove one of them many years ago (think it was Mt Baldy as that is the only one in my old guide book) when I lived in the springs. Actually, it looks like you could do both pretty easily in a day and/or the second half of eagle rock (the easier section towards the NW end - waypoints 10-16 on Trails Offroad).

You may be correct but MHJC has an open to the public run scheduled for 6/17/17. I don't really claim to know one way or another.

When you say weekday, do you mean exclusively in the morning? Because I can get out of work in the afternoon sometimes.

Mhjc is going to be in a world of hurt. Trailridge Runners have adopted that trail for many years. We have a full weekend 24-25 major maintenece and the trailmwill not open until we are done. New buck and rail fencing at the ponds by the upper water crossing required to keep the bozos out. Among other things.

Afternoon might be workable for something close and relatively easy - it is staying light out late. Tentatively hoping for a longer day run on Thurs, but I may be able to get out for an afternoon run either Tues, Wed or Fri.

How long is the china wall trip? I work graveyards and have weekdays off. I am definitely down for weekday trips, mostly early week but Thursday I don't work till 10pm. Next week maybe trying something Tuesday. Was thinking rainbow falls or Swiss trail. Let me know cuz Idk the trails at all but am looking for some people to cruise with so im not wheeling alone and can explore great trails.

Anyone have any interest in hitting Switzerland Trail and Gold Hill outside Boulder? I usually have customer meetings in Boulder on Friday and can sometimes be done for the day by 2pm and that may be fun to spend a Friday afternoon on?

Sorry for the late response!! Life been keeping me busy lately. As for the trails, theyre 2 pretty different trails. Mt. Rosa is really easy and to me, the highlight of Rosa is the view at the overlook. I've seen it in daylight and at night, both are nice. There's a few spots that are slightly off camber, actually Iwouldn't even call them off camber, but they lean you to the downhill and at a few places the downhill is a ways down, it's still no big deal though. I have ran a little bit of Rosa in the snow, but not much of it, too easy to end up involunatrily off trail and in a tree.

After one attempt last year, and 2 more this year, I finally made the top of Mt. Baldy. Gorgeous view from up there. Of course it was at night since that's when we do most of our wheeling, but with the light setups we have, it might as well be daylight, LOL. This trial starts off of FS 376 and winds through some trees for a while. Then the trees get thinner, the trail gets narrower and a picture of this trail could be used as a definition of shelf road. Still plenty of room, but you're not passing anyone here, but there are a few spots where you can. The most difficult part of it is a little obstacle on the shelf that leans you to the downhill a bit. In a 1st gen Explorer with 9" of lift and 35's, it got my attention the first time through it. From there it's smooth sailing to the top. The trail continues, but there is a gate that Ihear is almost always shut. I'm looking forward to running it again and spending a little time at the top. Whenever possible I escape up the hill to one of the many overlooks where Ihang out and work on little projects, or draw, or hell, I've even gone up there to park and wire in some lights on the rig!!

Between the 2 Ilike Baldy better. Higher altitude, better view, more (mentally) challenging trail. Ineed to finish eagle rock, and run bull park and then i will have ran all the trails off old stage. I like it up there, except on the weekends, too many people then.
