    Default Slaughterhouse Gulch 6/3/2017

Met up with Chris (cornpone99) and his son and made a quick loop around Slaughterhouse - they headed on toward BV afterwards. Like that pathfinder! We ran the lollipop ccw - so we had to come up the challenging hill immediately after turning left and up and out of gulch on the back side. Chis took the hard line on the left with all the whoop-de-doos and I sneaked by on the right route. When I ran it last year, I didn't remember that much challenging stuff after the initial climb, so I was surprised how challenging the next spot was - this is the one where the road curves just a bit to right and then goes up a steep narrow off camber spot with some dug-out bumps and a couple tight trees guarding the entrance. Took me a few tries to get the right line as those dug-out whoop-de-doos cause my short wheelbase and stiff springs to lift a tire and spin. Sorry No pics of that one - see if I can link it to Hypoid's report. Was pretty happy to make it up that - there is no bypass option.

Here are the few pics I took with my junky old phone:
the first two are of the initial gentle climb up to the ridge where you pass through the gate and start down the back side into the gulch.
The last three are of Chris climbing up the end the challenging left route out of the gulch.

This is from Mike's post - this is the 'left' hard line that Chris took and I skipped to the right. Don't see any pics of his that are of the surprising second spot though - looked like the weather was getting a bit interesting in his last pic.

Thanks James (FINOCJ) for meeting us for a slaughterhouse gulch trail ride. Sorry I didn't get any pictures of you.
After that Bryce and I headed to Chinamans in BV. Trail damage has both trails as a 4 but I would day Chinamans is 5+. it was a struggle to get by the guardian rocks. I sustained a little trail damage and had to do some bumper cutting on the trail. Then it was on to Buena Vista, we found a nice little spot on the river. It was flowing good with plenty of rafters. Then I checkd out red cone and Webster pass. Both are still closed. So we headed up guenella pass to Geneva creek. A nice little trail, but we were stoped by a snow drift. Then we had lunch by the creek . A great weedend! a few pics

Nice...where you able to go all the way over guanella to Georgetown and i-70 or did you have to go back to 285?

I am interested to run chinamans but slowly building back up to it with the old jeep.

    I went back to 285.
I figured the traffic would be better on that side.
    It wasn't bad at all.
