    Default Scrapping Vehicles in CO

    Greetings again, all!

I'm still trying to figure which way the rabbits are running in this crazy state, and I've got my head wrapped up in a project. What I'd like to do is a full drivetrain swap in an '86 Comanche by going either GM LS or Mopar 5.2/5.9 by using a full vehicle as a donor. In the past, I've done this type of project a few times but I'm still fairly fresh from Minnesota and things operate differently here. See, back in the 'sota I'd be able to pick up a wrecked donor vehicle, take what I want from it, and then take the title to the DMV (if in my name) and inform them that the vehicle has been scrapped. If I'd just picked up the vehicle (with or without a title that's not in my name) then most people just cut up what's left and dispose of it.

How does one scrap a vehicle here? Do I need to transfer the title in my name first or can I just have my way with it and forget about the paperwork? Any repercussions to previous owners if the title stays in their name?

I think the title in your name is required but then a call to a scrapper gets rid of it. I called Pull N Save for one I had and they came & got it and paid me by weight less towing. In my case the towing was more then the value but he gave me $35 anyway.

Better then a kick in the teeth!

    Title is a must.
The vin gets run to be sure it's not stolen.
Call All Recycling. They scrap and shrewd hundreds of cars a day.

As for a chassis swap, this still falls under the engine swap laws, it must be same year or newer.
And all related Exhoust to the year of said engine must be on the vehicle and operating.
So if you use a 90 chassis all the 1990 Exhoust must be there.
