Default Asking for trailer loading assistance...

...As some of you know, I've been going through serious engines issues this summer. I'm currently in a situation where the person I originally hired doesn't see eye to eye with me anymore. Therefore, I need to move my still non-running truck from Union and SanteFe in Denver to a place in Arvada. As of now, I have access to a buddy's truck and trailer on Sunday 9/25. The thing is, neither of us have a winch nor does the trailer. Would someone be willing/available to assist with their winch mounted vehicle to load up my truck? Or possibly let me borrow a trailer with a winch installed? I have a Dodge Ram 1/2 ton so 12K and a snatch block would be the minimum requirements. Any help is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance!

I wish I could help but I will be out of town with my truck and trailer. I thought I would throw this out there though. You don't need a 12K winch if the vehicle is rolling. You could get away with a 8K probably. You could always use a come-along or two if you had to, or a chain hoist. Heck, I have even used ratchet straps to drag a non functioning vehicle onto a trailer before. If you aren't able to find help, get creative. But hopefully someone will be able to help you out. Best of luck!

I'm going to the cleanup run 9/25 and will be staying in Highlands Ranch the night before. I'm willing to lend winch services either Saturday or early enough Sunday to not interfere with the cleanup run. After the cleanup run on Sunday I have open time.

    BUT

Maybe you can do this yourself / without a winch...

You will have two vehicles, yes? One tow vehicle with the trailer (attached) and one other vehicle - a pull vehicle? Is the trailer open sided? Could you tow strap it with a second vehicle onto the trailer? Pull-onto-trailer vehicle would be alongside the tow vehicle. Strap mounting offset sides enough that it would not contact the trailer tow vehicle when fully onto the trailer. No???

Brucker...thanks for the advice and for reminding me to think outside the box. Come alongs have been mentioned but I don't own any. If need be though, Harbor Freight is not far.

Jim...only the truck with the trailer. I don't have a second vehicle, been taking the bus since March...which has been a humbling experience. Thank you for offering services. I'll be working all Saturday well into the evening and am not going to hold you up from the run.

Also, not asking anyone to make a day of it...just if you happen to be near SanteFe and Union Rd with an hour to spare. And no worries if not, I'll just have to use the outside the box method.

Brucker gave you good advice. I watched a guy roll a 50-ton (yes, 100,000 lbs. empty) box car down a steel track with a six-foot long pry bar. If you can air the tires, a come-along can roll that beast up some trailer ramps.

Deal, come along it is. I have no experience in this department which always leads me to doubts, but all the reassurance in these posts are very helpful and well...reassuring. Thank you everyone. And my apologies for missing the clean up run again.

I have moved a few heavy items in my day. Hell I was the project manager that brought in most of the equipment for AC Golden/Coors when they first started brewing Blue Moon. I remember one day being on a chain hoist all day moving 10 ton tanks up 4 industrial flights through huge holes we cut through the cement. That was a long day...

Drew- Don't get discouraged. I moved all this out of a shop and onto my trailer with only a come-along, some ratchet straps, a 6' pry bar, 3 lengths of solid rod, some solid ramps, and one other guy. The lathe is about 1700#, the mill is around 2000# and the tooling cabinet with tooling was about 1500#.

The way I look at it, if the Egyptian slaves could move what they did, I should be able to do it easier/faster/cleaner.

maybe one of these and a snatch block would do it, or atleast lend a hand? $69.99, get a 20% coupon and it's pretty cheap.

I might be able to help. What time on Sunday are you looking at?

If you decide to do the come-along route, you don't need anything fancy. I use the ones that cost $15-$20 all the time to load vehicles on my tow dolly. There is no way you will be able to do it in 1 pull. You will need a chain to attach to the come-along. Do a pull, then set the e-brake and reset the come-along and chain. You may have to do the process 5-6 times. Make sure you use a chain and NOT a strap. The strap will just stretch and the vehicle won't move much.

Thank you for offering, but I've spoken with Kurtis and it's a solid go. Plus he's a little bit closer...Thanks Kurtis, you're awesome

No problem. I am only about 15 mins away from Santa Fe and Union. Let me know if it doesn't work out.

Don't swear it buddy. I know Adam will get you fixed up right, and know I'm not the only who will be glad to see you back in the dirt. There will be plenty more cleanups.
