Default Opps. I finally found that strange noise coming from the front..

Pulled the little blue shop truck in this afternoon to finally install a hydro assist set up I have been meaning to get to for the past couple of years. Yes, years. Clients come first and when I actually get time to work of the rig, I end up taking it and playing with it instead. You should see the pile of parts I have accumulated over the years for personal projects. It's half the reason the shop is so full....

Anywho, I have been hearing a weird noise for quite a long time. At least most of this season. And I finally found the culprit. I knew my front springs were twisted and bent, but I didn't realize I had actually broken another one.

This makes 3 total since I finished building it. First two I was able to steal a couple springs from other sets. I don't have that luxury anymore. Needless to say, I ordered two new complete spring packs this afternoon. Probably run into a height issue with the back, but I will deal with that once the new springs arrive...

At least it wasn't the main leaf. Had that happen to a vehicle years ago. The only good part is it had a military wrap, so the 2nd leaf held things in place to get it home.

Aaron, I have a few spring packs at the house. Would have to go out and make sure but I think 2 sets are stock 4runner rears, 60something inch chevy's x2 and can't remember what else. You are welcome to em if ya need em!

Thank you very much for the offer! There are two different add-a-leafs in these stacks. This time, one of them broke. Given that matching that one old spring would be impossible now, and that the rest of the spring packs were in such poor shape, I voted for new. Problem lies in there is no good way to measure what the actual height is now compared to stock and there is currently one two companies making off the shelf replacements for the 89-97 rear leafs. Both only offer a 4" lift in stock length. Thinking this is about 1-1.5" over my current ride height. If this is actually the case, I will modify the rear to make up the difference.

Got the new front spring packs installed. Took a couple tries to get the ride height correct, but it is right. Also got the hydro assist installed and then reworked, long story. And there are a couple more additions coming. But the truck is ready and able again. Here are a couple teasers from testing out the new springs. About 41" under any tire before another one starts to lift:

It will be interesting to see how long these spring packs last seeing how they twist/bend/flex already...

I will post an update in the build thread soon...

Sounds like time to have some built by Denver spring.
Most the springs we get now days from just about any after market supplier are made by a 12 year old Chinese girl....

Alcan springs are good and some are US made.
But having them made by Denver spring is still the way I would go.

SynergyXJ is on his 3rd set of rears springs from rough country....as long as they continue to warranty them he will swap them out....
Even for his rig I think the investment with Denver spring would be a better option.

    Looking good Aaron.

Sorry but if I have to start paying custom prices for leaf springs, I will just throw on a linked suspension and coilovers. I have those sitting around. Should have probably made the switch this time around based solely on the time it took me to get to the halfway into building new spring packs with the couple different tries I made to get ride height correct. But then it was more about overcoming the challenge then starting over.

That is getting some great flex from the leaf springs, but I have never seen a spring bend and twist like that! I bet you are right, they probably won't last long.

I bet you link it next year.
Them springs won't like all that twist.
