Default Devil's Canyon is open!!! Who's ready for a clean up run?

Got an email from Brant yesterday that they finally got the rock moved!! Here is his email:

Devils Canyon is open and clear. I didn’t drive all of the roads so it is possible some may have down trees blocking. Since I knew no one would be in there, I didn’t bother driving the whole area. Too many other pressing things. Let me know when you get a chance to check it out. Lots of signs shot up in the early portion of the road.

We ended up moving the rock with a truck and chains and had about 6 of us with rock bars to roll it over one time to the side of the road. We also tested the micro blaster to see how it would work. Turns out that we could have blasted it as well, some people were speculating the micro blaster wouldn’t touch it…wrong. We blasted a couple big chunks off and could have done the whole thing but opted to move the whole rock instead.
    Enjoy the open area.

Although this isn't how we normally do clean up runs, I know there were a few who volunteered to help on this one once it was open. I would say either this next weekend we knock it out, but if the following weekend works better for everyone than I would say that's probably the farthest we want to push it out. Poll is set up once again, please vote for each day you would be available to help. If you are available all 4 days, please vote for all 4.

What about a mid week clean up run, for those of us who work weekends?

August 7th is currently the only one I might be able to do. I have been working most weekends. If you post up some weekday options, I might have a better shot.

Ha - it had to happen these next two weeks when I am out of town. If we could throw it together quick enough - I could do a mid-week run this Wed (7/27) with Tim. Otherwise it would be Aug 13-14 weekend. Whatever you decide works best Chad - appreciate your volunteering to organize.

I'm open to mid week also, just trying to get as many people who want to participate as possible. More people= more fun in my opinion, as well as less work on everyone. I assumed (and I know better than to do that) that the majority would be available on weekends, but if we can get more people during the week then I can make that work also. The poll only allows for 10 selections so how about if I keep track of votes off the forum to allow for any all days between now through Aug. 7th. Just reply with any and all days yours available in your comment please, and we'll do whichever day the most people can join.

I could do this Wednesday if you want. Would love to get a few others to join us though.

Night runs are fun, it's staying light out pretty late, and Devil's Canyon is mostly flat and easy with no cliffs to drive over. I could do this Friday.

Kind of difficult to "clean up" the trail in the dark.

Sure, and it's just my availability, probably not ideal but I think its doable. it stays light out up there pretty late and the bulk of the cleanup is generally within walking distance of the seasonal gate and then at established campsites. Maybe headlamps at some point, but I doubt it would get there. Devil's Canyon is mostly 2wd and a big loop with some spurs, it's fast. On the Barbour clean up we hit the trail at 10:30 and met up at 1:30, including a lot of hanging out and a vehicle repair. I think we could do Devil's in 2 hours, especially since it's been closed. IDK, maybe not.

Barbour Fork clean up, much slower trail, time is in upper right corner when we actually are on the trail:

Night run @ Yankee Hill. We met up at the St. Mary's parking lot @ 7:00 ish, got on the trail about 8. It was dark between 9 and 10.

Devil's Canyon clean up 2013, you can see how easy most of it is to drive:

Being someone who wheels at night A LOT, I think if nothing else it's safer to do a clean up in the daylight. I have 3 spotlights and have driven trails while simultaneously searching with a spotlight. It's actually pretty slow going since literally all you can see is what the spotlight lights up. I'm certainly not opposed to an evening run when it's a little cooler though for sure. I think at this point I'll post another comment with availability suggestions mentioned above and lets see who's available when on those days/times. I don't want to drag out the discussion longer than necessary, and we all know how easy that can be to do. I'll gather up any and all availability votes and suggestions and post them up by the end of the day. There's nothing I want more than for everyone who wants to participate to be able to, but unfortunately I know that's not possible, so if we decide on a date your unable to help, I apologize, but the fall clean-up isn't that far away!!
