Default Attempting to plan Black Bear Pass/Imogene Pass caravan

I'm attempting to get a window from work but preliminary thought is July 11-13. Drive to and overnight Ouray on 11th and run BBP morning of 12th, followed by Imogene and depart 13th. Or overnight in Telluride after BBP and run Imogene morning of 13th and head home.

BBP will be open all the way by then. Imogene is getting plowed now.

I'm done with 70 on the weekends (WTF?!), so would need to be during the week to save my sanity. (Could go 285 but would still prefer during the week)

Date subject to change until I get clearance but that week of the 11th is possible for me and then I won't have an opportunity until August. Would rather hit it sooner than later.

    Who's in? Thoughts?

Can't join in, but I'm heading out to Ouray in a couple of weeks for a family trip, mostly hiking and some of the alpine loop, and we're avoiding I-70 as well. We're taking 285 to Weston Pass to 24; then 82 Independence Pass to 133 with an overnight in Carbondale; then 133 / 92 to 50; 50 / 550 to Ouray.

Black Bear is on this years' bucket list, but we can't make it that soon. More towards end of summer is what we were thinking.

@Paul We did Independance pass in my convertible last fall when all the aspens were a nice gold. BEAUTIFUL drive. Stop by the Independance ghost town if you have time, great place to stretch and check out some old buildings, lots of info on the town there too.

Yea, I'm not sure how likely my dates are and it may just roll well in to August but I hope not. I'd like to get on it before they close it after the next accident to save us from ourselves!

I-70 is absolutely unbelievable anymore. I'm fortunate enough to not have to drive in rush hour on a regular basis but I used to never get caught in jams. Now it's every time I head out, no matter what time of day.At any rate, have fun Paul!

we are avoiding the I70 mess today as well.
As Evan has planed a afternoon into evening run up to Bill Moore we will be going up the hwy6 canyon to avoid the masses and the climb.

Last year we did 285 to BV, ran Tincup Pass followed by Napoleon Pass then spent the night in Gunnison. Next day to Lake City Engineers pass plus two others. Spent the night in Ouray ran BB and Imogene, then headed out.

    Made a great excursion.

Too early for me, I like going there in August when the snow's gone. I live that area!

Thanks Tom, I was actually thinking of getting one in on the way: Tincup would be a winner. Tim, that's the initial plan, I just have to clear with work, hopefully soon. Chris, yea, that's a possibility for me since it's probably 50/50 that I'll get next week to do it.

I am thinking next week might be a little soon, maybe a little later in the month, or early August?

Fred mentioned that in post 1, my concern would be Imogene & Engineer. I ran into Imogene snow when it was cleared once, probably 12' deep that they were working on clearing. It's no fast task.

Actually he stated BBP would be open by then. I was just affirming it is already open.

Hey Tim, so far I have confirmation that I'm working Monday morning, would be off Tuesday but Wed's a question mark. With all that is stacking against me, I'm just going to put it off until August, plan further ahead and maybe that will also give others a chance to work it out too. Will revive the thread in August!

Sounds good, I would be able to get out of town until around 2 on a Monday anyway. Let's push for early August maybe?
