Default Recommendations Needed! - AC Mechanic / Shop

Hey y'all! So, it's getting to be that time of year where and I realize it's time to deal with the AC being out in the little Explorer... Bought this one in Jan and the previous owner "said" the compressor went out, but...we know how that goes . Anyhow, gonna get a serpentine belt and throw it on there to see if it can be determined if it's the clutch, the compressor or just needs a recharge. In a worst case scenario and the compressor needs to be swapped out, there are always tons of Explorers at U-Pull and Pay, but a manifold gauge set and vacuum pump would be needed which of course I don't have. Lol. So, does anyone by chance have access and if not, could any of you possibly recommend a good shop to get AC work done? Any suggestions, much appreciated! Hope everyone's doing well and has a relaxing Fourth of July weekend

I'm surprised Chad is letting anyone else work on it! I know a decent shop in Edgewater, might be a trek for you.

I know a guy that does mobile AC work its all he does, this time of year he is busy but he will come to you and do the work. as long as you have the pump hooked up so needs a belt, and good electrical to make the clutch run.

call Garett with Advanced Ac services. 303 880 8025 that is his mobile phone

I've got a bottom of the harbor freight manifold and vaccy pump. Used it to replace the compressor in my rig last year. Long story short I don't have AC again this summer. I'm in Broomfield, you're welcome to use it, if you get working AC longer than a summer maybe you can help me figure out mine 😝

I was ASE certified in AC years ago, so it's not that I can't work on it, but lack of a pump and gauge set makes it impossible. I'm going to put a belt on it and see what happens. May just need a clutch, I replaced the clutch on my 96 a few years back when my buddy still owned it. Hoping it's something stupid........

Thanks TJ, now that you mention it, I'm not sure what they used in for freon in '94? I'm pretty sure it's r134? I'll have to take a peek, still haven't made it over to get the belt yet anyway.

    134A would be a maybe....
It,was change over in the 90's
My 91 dodge was R12 and a car better system.
134A degrades and is very close to being propain. It is known to explode in front end commissions.

Ya, I thought about that. i can't remember when they made the switch from R12. R12 was way better but phased out like R22 is now.

Environmentalists got that one done too. Completely agree R12 is far superior. Busy day today, didn't get a chance to look, next few days is pretty busy actually, but luckily it's mostly running trails
