    Default Howdy

    Hi folks -

I'm Mike - just moved to the west side of Denver from California (only there for 2 years, prior to that Ohio) and picked up a new-to-me Cherokee, a 2000 sport. This is my third XJ (96 Country Classic with faux-woodgrain, and a 2000).
It is all stock. Not planning any mods other than safety stuff, and decent tires (current Hercules tires are half done...). I'm more into getting off pavement for the expedition, camping, hiking, etc vs technical wheeling. But we'll see :-)

Never been off road at elevation, so this will be new to me.

If anyone has a recommendation for a short level 2-3 trail within an hours drive of Denver, I'm looking for something to just get out of town tmrw...

I'm really looking forward to getting out with a group and learning and seeing what CO has to offer.

    -Mike

Welcome to the group. Traildamage.com is a great resource for trails. Lot of snow up there still so many trails are not ready yet.

    Thanks thanks.

Re: snow - yeah, not quite up to speed on how much and how long snow lasts here yet :-)
I made a short list of trails from traildamage and now need to go back and look at elevation - looks like anything over 8-9k is snowy thru June.

Oh cool - Loch Lomond (http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=71) was on my list but then I saw this Switzerland Trail (which is nearby?) video from 2 weeks ago (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uT7nBt8VeaA) and figured it might be too much snow for plain jane AT tires.

Right now debating on Gross Reservoir area (the Boulder Ranger I called said Taylor Mt area was closed and they haven't sent out folks to open anything yet...kinda discouraged going Taylor and recommend Gross) or Idaho Springs Yankee/Lomond with this info. Just finished changing both diff fluids, xfer case and fixing the AC... ready to go.

The lower part of Loch Lamond is open to vehicles, but the upper part won't open (probably) until July. You could always park at the seasonal gate and hike up to the lake...

Welcome! I just left the Fourmile area near Buena Vista; it's all dry down there, and trails range from dirt road to Carnage Canyon.
