I had Thursday off so we got a room at the Best Western Buena Vista (decent hotel, good price) and spent some time in the Fourmile area. We drove the Shields Gulch / McGee Gulch Loop, and FS376 from Shields Gulch to FS 375. Shields / McGee is subaruable, but fun. Campsites everywhere, and most are great. Dirt / sand is the major feature, some muddy areas that day.
FS376 is GREAT!! I wasn't expecting anything much, I had done the first hundred yards or so of it last year before taking a site and it was nothing. We were in our Xterra, stock, so I was going for subaruable, if I had known I would have done something else. Once I was into it... 376 is all whoopdees, turns, hills and stream crossings, it was me and dirt bikes. Great trail, I can't wait to go back and do it in the Jeep. That direction is a good one to do it in too, it's all downhill. 376D (pic) is a camping spur, there are many with views like that. Video coming in a couple of days.
We also drove through the midland railroad tunnels, saw the Sailor Homestead, and found an incredible campsite with views of everything where we had dinner. Cool place. We high tailed it home this morning through light snow on 285.
