    Default Fourmile

I had Thursday off so we got a room at the Best Western Buena Vista (decent hotel, good price) and spent some time in the Fourmile area. We drove the Shields Gulch / McGee Gulch Loop, and FS376 from Shields Gulch to FS 375. Shields / McGee is subaruable, but fun. Campsites everywhere, and most are great. Dirt / sand is the major feature, some muddy areas that day.

FS376 is GREAT!! I wasn't expecting anything much, I had done the first hundred yards or so of it last year before taking a site and it was nothing. We were in our Xterra, stock, so I was going for subaruable, if I had known I would have done something else. Once I was into it... 376 is all whoopdees, turns, hills and stream crossings, it was me and dirt bikes. Great trail, I can't wait to go back and do it in the Jeep. That direction is a good one to do it in too, it's all downhill. 376D (pic) is a camping spur, there are many with views like that. Video coming in a couple of days.

We also drove through the midland railroad tunnels, saw the Sailor Homestead, and found an incredible campsite with views of everything where we had dinner. Cool place. We high tailed it home this morning through light snow on 285.

The Midland Railroad Tunnels, just outside of Buena Vista. It only takes 3 minutes to drive through them, but they're pretty cool and right at the start of FS375 / Fourmile. Also of note, my dog had surgery two weeks ago and on Wed the Vet told us she's cancer free. She's pushing 14 but I guess she will let us know when she's done.

Did thst myself last Fall, it's a nice break from the usual trails. That's what we call a "day off" to let these old bodies recover from a couple days of harder/longer days.

Some of the camping, there are sites with even better views of the Collegiate Peaks than the one we were at. Great place, can't wait to go back!

The Midland Railway Tunnels on CR371, the western border of Fourmile.

So I'm putting this together and it seemed like I was watching a different trail... I remembered 376 as this awesome sandy trail with tons of dirt bikes (seems there were two) and ATVs (one) and I know for sure I had fun, but I guess it was just a fun day... The Sevenmile Creek wash area was the best part.
