i can say from the picture to my eyes its a passenger side drop low pinion as i see no spring mounts on the top nor do i see evidence of them being removed for a custom swap i also can not see thw whole brake caliper but it looks very similar to my chevy ones so if that still matches your truck then could be worth a look may also have severe issues with rust as no diff cover stub axles exposed and hubs are exposed so if the seller can give more info (or pics) could be good or a paperweight

was told it was from a Chevy but set up for a XJ and still has spring perches on, width was estimated around 60.
hopefully its not rusted.
your jeep is driver drop correct ? if so then you will have to change to passenger drop to run a chevy axle
had him send me more pisc looks like its a passenger side low pinion to me.
having the guy look at he vent tube on it now.
brake lines look to be at the bottom of the diff in these pics too that also leads me to think its up side down,
guy didn't sound to happy after telling him he has a chevy low pinion passenger side drop.
nice guy tho! the search continues.......
Looks like a good deal if its the right width
___________
In a never ending search for the proper mix of dirt & rock !
The guy/kid told me someone he knows told him it's was a hi pinion 44 and was in the automotive field for a long time.
Booooooo next time maybe.
I think he lied and is trying to find a sucker. For the work it takes a Dana 44 isn't that much stronger than a late model Dana 30. Same u joints which will probably be the weak point. Something to think about.....,
I was kinda thinking the same.
I figured I'd get a d44 for the same price of rebuilding my front d30 eliminate the coupler, 2 piece passsager shaft.
But I might end up building the d35 if cost exciteds.
Right now my d30 need ball joints, passenger side wheel bearing, axle seals, would like to covert to a one price shaft and possable carrier bearings. It has 230k on it 50k is with 33's and wheeling it.
I am not very knowledgeable on the YJ stuff. If you are OK with the cast part of the Central Axle Disconnect, there are kits to convert to a single shaft on the passenger side. If you have to get rid of the housing, you are looking at some fabrication work, regardless of what axle you choose.
id say find the early bronco front axles but those are getting harder to find BUT i did notice this earlier and though it may be a bit wider ( i have no idea on this year ford) this will be the best you may find in a long long time http://cosprings.craigslist.org/pts/5261558063.html
not a bad find.
the full sixe stuff is a bit tougher.
the ujoint is the weak spot.
but the plus side is full serviceable part lije the ujoint and axle bearings.
for your yj the 74-77 is what you want for ease if fab to install.
be carefull with stuff that is half apart......its apart for a resion.
Yeah, it's all ready to much at this point lol. Rather toss cash at my Yota, and do minor fixes to the yj, like any other DD. Thanks guys. I'll keep all this in mind I'm sure I'll be thinking about this in a year or two.
Sleve the front with some gussets and do some shaft upgrades call it good.
