Do you have a place or time frame in mind? I've been meaning to get out near Salida/Buena Vista all summer, but I never made it. I'd be up for a weekend trip.
One question though: how cold do the nights get in the mountains here?
the g/f and i are planning on camping in the grand lake area this weekend.

We want to camp Sat night & never been to grand lake. But my camping spot needs to be at our jeep because the tents will go off of the jeep.
wife and I have spent some time looking at trails and have decided on Pickle Gulch. wont be too rough on the Rhino and LOTS of trails to explore over 2 days! I posted this as a run if anyone would enjoy to go or meet up there Sat or Sun
I have a Question. on dispursed camping. can i camp wherever i want? as long as it is the natonal forest and not owned land? I have never been camping in CO but i know i dont want to run a campground. I fully intend to Pack in & Pack out and no not leave any trace of my being there. that being said any tips from anyone would be super nice
Correct.
All the forest service rules are typically the same- but it's always wise to check first and know the rules before you go. If you get stopped by a ranger, you can at least have a competent discussion with him as to why you are where you are.
I find these Fs rules weird. its ok to drive off trail up to 300ft to go camping, but it is not ok to drive off trail 5ft to avoid an obstacle.
Im a firm believer in stay the trail and all. i just don't understand the rules sometimes
When on the trail & at a campsite, is it ok to Pan gold or dig a little in the older runoff's? How about panning in a stream?
for what it's worth, I live at 9200ft and we've been in the upper 40s, low 50s, at night. it's getting more and more windy, though. shut the windows last night because of the wind.
