Default Watch where your knee is.

Last years Spring Clean Up Run I was on the Devil's Canyon side. We were on the back loop when suddenly there was a bang underneath the Bronco that I felt through the floorboards. All forward motion stopped, engine reved up and I started to roll backwards. Moving the gear shift did nothing. I was dead in the middle of the trail. I set the parking break, got out and looked everywhere under the Bronco. No fluid leaking out, nothing hanging down. A few others came and joined in on the investigation and none of us found anything. I got back in the Bronco (it was still running) and my knee bumped the 2wd/4wd selector. I heard the gears grinding. We discovered my knee had hit the shifter on a bump and knocked the T-case into neutral. I felt like such an idiot.

We've probably all done something like that, I know I have. A good reminder to check the simple stuff first!

I did that just the other night in my 4Runner. Bumped the t-case into neutral. Luckily it was just in the driveway.

I had sort of the same thing happen: I was taking a friend's youngsters for rides in my '74. Since there were more children than seat belts, it took a few trips to give everyone a ride. On the last trip, I had the youngest strapped in next to me, he was so small his feet would not reach the floor anyway. On the last climb, the truck had a lot of trouble cresting the hill. I was puzzled because the truck never had a problem on the other trips. As I sat at the bottom of the hill thinking about it, the youngest started swinging his feet. His legs were just long enough to push the ol' Dana 21 into two wheel drive. Problem solved!!!
