We spend most of our time on the hardball getting to the dirt. What is the longest trail or combination of trails in CO?

Cross a road is fine. Should we stipulate no more then 100 yds on the hardball once you start on the dirt? I kinda wish traildamage let you sort by length and difficulty at the same time.

I'm pretty sure the Kokopelli trail that leads to the moab area is a long dirt trail but I think there is an unavoidable pavement section in the middle.

I bet the longest stretch of dirt you could do would be out east, or in the San Luis Valley. Non of these roads would really be technical of course, but better than hitting the highway. You could also use the dirt/gravel roads to link together trails, and avoid the pavement. Here is a great site:

I did a loop last fall of Lost Dog - Farwell Mountain - Hahn's Peak - Little Red Park - Big Red Park - Ellis Jeep Trail - Hog Park Reservoir - Elkhorn Mountain. Don't know the exact miles, but it was a decent length of trails with some gravel/dirt roads in between. With a little planning, you could add several more trails to this loop. Though about heading over Sand Mountain into California Park. From there, you could go all over on dirt.

While not really of much interest, the trails at Pawnee Natl Grassland would likely qualify (technically). There are trails and then they have gravel connecting the trails.

Most I can do in my Honda station wagon (some with due care) but some need the jeep (higher ground clearance than the 5" the honda has).

I did about 35-40 miles this weekend on dirt between Delores aND Norwood. Just dirt gravel roads, but I was still abe to get myself stuck. Lost about an hour due to being stupid on hard packed snow. I will try to get pics and a write up this week. No pics of solo snow bashing...

I am planning on joining a group for the grand loop on Memorial Day weekend. It connects colorado and Utah and consists of a few hundred miles. I know in Utah you can hit the grand staircase and stay off pavement for a week with incredible scenery and slot canyon hikes.
