    Default Land Rover tech needed

I am looking for a mechanic for my 95 Land Rover Discovery. Since moving back to Colorado my tools are greatly reduced and I have a bunch of problems with it. Here's what I know I need.

I have a popping sound in front when I accelerate, sounds like left manifold gasket. This is my priority problem, loss of power included and CEL. I really need this diagnosed.

Next issue will be my suspension and steering. Got a gangster lean and 3" of play in my steering

Last will be tracking down some tires, I put back on daily driver light suv tires and they are shot.

I am in Aurora/Centennial area and Rover does not travel well right now. I have heard mixed reviews on some of the shops in the area. Just want an honest tech to help me get back on the trails.

    Thanks!
    Jon

    Thanks for the support gang!

Jon! You are in luck! Not only am I a rover tech but I have a 95 I have done basically EVERYTHING to.
Your priority problem (popping) is most likely your cam going flat. Not a easy fix.

Here is a video of my cam.

here is the post cam replacement video

let me know if that is what your experiencing.
Your lean is probably tired springs. A lift will solve that. Steering can be multiple issues, would need to check it out.

Hey Brad great to meet you. The popping I am hearing is when I accelerate it makes a few loud pops, I can feel them in the steering. On the left (drivers side) of the motor. Sounds a lot like a backfire, but in front It is hard to get it to do it just revving the engine. I have been having tons of issues with inconsistent idle and stalling as well. I changed plugs and wires yesterday, all but two plugs were fouled. Cylinders 1 and 7 smelled of fuel. Honestly I think I just need someone to drive it and check it out

The two codes I get from the on board diagnostic are 14 and I think the other I have seen was 32 (stepper motor or something)
    Currently stuck on the 14.

Other than that I need shocks, springs, and some tires and I am wheeling again

I am happy to check it out. Unfortunately we are on opposite sides of town. Think it can make it out to golden?

a compression test on all 8 cylinders is in order.

With a little planning I can get it out there. It is currently my daily driver, does fine as long as I am not sitting in traffic. I am slammed this week. So I will keep in touch and shoot for the weekend or sometime next week.
    Can't thank you enough

    Hey Brad,

Looks like I need something local first. Whatever is going on is getting worse. Hard time reaching and holding highway speeds now. Anyone that can recommend a shop or something in the SW edge of Aurora/Centennial area? I have heard ok things about Aspen Auto. http://www.aspenautocliniccentennial.com/

Thank you everyone for your help. Hope to get this sorted so I can make a run soon.

Well luck ran out tonight. Died in the left turn lane on Arapahoe going onto Buckley. Had a buddy tow me home with an F150... Tough pill to swallow

Right on, your shop has a great reputation. I am going to mess around with it tonight, see if I can get it running well enough to get it to you. At the rate things are starting to fail on it I might just replace everything attached to the gas cap. It has been an awesome truck. We have shared many great times, but I am thinking retirement is near for it.

I'll let you know if I can get it down there Brad. Thank you a ton!

    Quick update...
Blown engine, dropped a cylinder. Was advised if head was changed it would over power the damaged block. Keeping it for parts, in the market for another Discovery 1 94-97.

    Bummer...

I posted some Discos for cheap prices in the Cool Finds section recently. There is typically plenty to choose from, hard part might be finding one that has a good engine.
