Default Interesting take on American traits

Saw this on another forum. Interesting read. Don't worry, they are short reads. Really highlights some of the differences between our cultures.

For the Japanese traveling to America

For the Russian traveling to America

    Fun read.

A comment... From the Japanese list, #10 is one thing that does "make the U.S. of A. great" and is something that "we" don't often realize we have.

"In America, you can make mistakes, fail, and it doesn’t matter. It is a fundamental feeling that to sometimes be incorrect is natural. In addition, rather than thinking about mistakes and failures, American’s have curiosity and say, "Let’s try anyway!""

Several years back, while out on a motorcycle trip with a buddy, we came across (hotel breakfast near the Great Smoky Mountains) a guy from Europe. He was in the U.S. to bicycle ride across the country - Pacific to Atlantic. As he was almost finished with the trip, we asked what he thought of us...

    1) What is it with F150 pickups - they are EVERYWHERE
    2) What is it with you and mowing grass - you spend a lot of time cutting lawns
    3) Automobile drivers are much more courteous (ties in with the Japanese article) than "back home". Cars move far left / give a lot of room to bicycle riders when whizzing by.

When asked what is the state he most liked for beauty: Utah - due due to the range of colors - blues / reds / greens

Never looked at our culture in that way. Really just take it for granted.

The part that was the most interesting to me was that they both said American's are notorious for being smiley and optimistic compared to other countries. In one way, its makes me glad to be in country that is that way, but in another made me wonder what it would be like to live in a country that views us that way. Especially in the last half decade, I would not generally have considered the majority of American's to be generally optimistic, it really doesn't sound like a nice place to be.

I'm not a world traveller, but a lot of tips were surprising to me since they didn't really reflect my interpretation of the average american experience in comparison to a country like Japan that often try to emulate the US in almost a Caricature like way. I suspect they were more pointed at business people and less at dealing with the average american though, which is a whole another realm. I suspect the average american could probably use a list of tips with dealing with a big wig business person's idiosyncracies too.

I like the combination of your statement followed by "easy rarely does it."
