    Default Starter is going out

I believe my starter is starting to kick the bucket couple times I've tried to start my truck and it will give no response then the lights and everything will flick on and it will start right up. Is this my starter or something else? How difficult is it to get to the starter? Also do they sell them at NAPA or Advanced Auto parts?

Could be a bad ground. Had that happen to the 40. Several folks here pointed me in the right direction.

Agree with Rob, start by cleaning bat cable and terminals: both end of each.

as cheap as they are, just replace the negative cable to start. it does sound like a ground issue, and more often than not, i find it to be in the cable itself.

Agreed. Check the main power and ground cables first.

I would agree with the cleaning. Just had this problem recently, i did everything but check the battery terminals. I was trying to find why my battery was "draining" so quick. well after checking every relay and every fuse and every wire, then I looked at the battery terminals and they had some corrosion on them. I cleaned it, and it started right up!

Sometimes you forget to check the simple things first.

Yup check every connection but afterwards check the starter itself pretty good. I had this happening one time and thought the starter was going out but what had happened is a bolt that held the solenoid to the starter had fallen out and it was not making contact. I got it going by holding the solenoid in place well my wife started the trooper and when I got home I had a bolt that fit got another year out of the starter before it really died.

Like you guys said it was the battery cables and terminals!

My dad cut it but this is one of the two spots on the negative were the wire was completely exposed

Terminals were pretty bad too! This is the negative lots of corrosion the positive was covered in dirt.
