Rollins Pass has been on my mind this week with the story of a hiker falling from the Needles Eye tunnel area =\

Here's another one back to you. It's probably too easy.

yup...just spent 3 days wheeling the San Juan with a small group of old cj5s. BB and immogene yesterday. Jen and I have to move on to our next adventure, but some of the group is staying for another day or two.

James I'm jealous! Although I did the area second weekend of June. Most of the trials were open. 5 days 4 nights. Camped just above Telluride the first night. 2nd and 3rd. Just passed the mining area on Corkscrew, above the staging area. And the 4 th night on the south side of stony pass. Love that area!!!!

I've been up that road quite a few times hiking, skiing, climbing etc....can't recall ever noticing it before. Of course, most of the morning we head up its still dark, and probably too exhausted on the way back to notice.

You might not have noticed it as that road is terrible and you had other things on your mind. It's almost as bad as Zapata Falls. Only a few turns up I stopped to air down. `went to 15 PSI and I should have gone down to high single digits (6 PSI for Zapata Falls road)

    Google Map

I need to get back up there. I found out last night that I should have walked around the old mine area (south of the trailhead) a bit more. There's a tunnel into the mountain (Google Map). It's likely barred/locked - but it'd be nice to see in person. I also wish to trek up "the other road" (319 / Stevens Gulch). I was getting low on fuel and skipped it.

Looking for the name of the mountain range, or the pass that is nearest this range. A hint is that is part of the largest aspen forest in the state and perhaps the country.

    It's listed as "Silverton Colo"

I'd like to know GPS coords of the cabin.

Nope Kebler pass is a graded well maintained dirt county road. And that's not Crested Butte mtn.

That could (my photo) be Mt Huron on the right with Crestone Needle 2nd from front center and Crestone peak behind. That would put it just north of the Sand Dunes. There is a jeep trail I know goes north out of the dunes. I hiked it years ago. (1973ish)

That would make the four center peaks: Broken Hand, Crestone Needle, Crestone Peak, and Kit Carson.

They don't quite look right to me though.

    Did you take the photo?

I went searching for the largest Aspen groves / clones in Colorado. Kebler Pass keeps coming up. This article mentioned a land form called "the Dyke". Searching for it - I find such an item near Kebler Pass (Google Map). Photos of the Dyke do not look to match the ridge / peak / mountain in your photo.

Now to search the names you mention...

When you mentioned "north" and "Sand dunes" my mind went to the sand dunes up north near Walden. Searching on Crestone Needle - I'm seeing stuff WAY down south and needed to switch mental gears LOL

Would Medano Pass win a prize?

I see Old South Colony Lakes Trailhead south of Medano Pass (east side of the range) but that does not look to go up-n-over.
