4BT swaps are definitely popular in full size vehicles. If I'm not mistaken PATC has a Suburban with a 4BT. At only 3.9l it puts out a good amount of power for its size. You can't really go wrong with it. My favorite part is the engine's simplicity. It was a good day pulling the ECU and other mandatory engine accessories knowing they wouldn't need to go back in.

Ha! I thought he was being funny. I didn't take him serious... shame on me. Well that's cool. Guess I really need to get crackin on the build if I want to get in on the cookies.

Thank you. Due to the simplicity of the engine the swap is easier then would be thought. It is a heavy engine though so the suspension has to be taken into consideration. The 4BT is just over 700lbs. It's also a little taller, taller then the 4.0 I6 that comes in Jeeps anyway. In some cases a modest lift is needed to make some room. The 6BT is a monster on its own but it's the same engine as the 4BT just two more cylinders and almost 300lbs heavier. If you can sort out the logistics of a 6BT swap and need to tear houses from their foundations from time to time then it's worth looking into.

4BT: 745-782 pounds. 6BT: 905-975 pounds. They are beasts. The 4BT weighs about 45 more pounds then a big block Chevy, fully dressed, with oil, filter, accessories and flex plate or flywheel. I've been doing the research for a very long time. One of the sites I've found over the years.

If I'm not mistaken the extra mass makes it harder to overheat them as well... within reason. If a 4BT can push a FedEx van around town all day loaded with other peoples junk it won't have any trouble pushing my wee Grand Cherokee.

Thank you. Range Rovers always look so good lifted. I considered that same model as a base for my big build. In the end I decided to stay with the ZJ.

Agreed. The only thing you have to worry about is the massive torque breaking things downstream. 265 foot pounds of torque is easily bumped up to 400 or better.

It can definitely be a friend or foe. If everything is done right the massive torque will help all the numbers across the board. I only have one real hesitation and that's the built 700R4 sitting between the engine and the t-case. PATC says it can take it with stride and I trust them since that is all they do. Doesn't help the nagging twitch at the back of my mind though. I'm already burned out on rebuilding transmissions. Or at least shelling out the cash to have them rebuilt. Hopefully it will never be issue.

Should be good to go. If it can handle the numbers their site says and they'll back it you should be all right. Don't even wanna know what that set you back. Cool stuff under your rig, for sure! Especially the 4BT. Love those little engines.

LOL Thanks... If by "do mine" you mean drink beer, point at stuff and grunt. I'm always available to help others learn by my mistakes and through the occasional conquest.

Yeah... it's not cheap by any means but PATC has or had a great package deal that was very reasonable in my opinion. The STaK t-case cost almost as much by itself as the 4BT Raptor package from PATC.
