Default 2013-11-10 Pole Hill with obstacles

Just start'n the post. I'm home now. It was a quite enjoyable day. 2-1/2 sections of trail unrunnable (it would have been three but we did some branch / tree cutting and made it through). A good day - many pix and vid's to come.

The bonus for the day: CHRIS DID NOT ROLL HIS TRUCK at the mud holes. Rob has a slight bit of carnage (bent bodywork).

I believe Eric and I came out, mechanically, clean. All of us were suitably muddy.

Pole Hill is now a great obstacle course.

Thanks Jim, Chris and Eric. What a fun day. I'll have some pics up in a bit, along with video of Chris NOT rolling his rig.

    Wow...

    Just wow....

I really thought Chris was gonna flop.
Unless his wife is reading this and then it was all fine and the outcome was never in doubt and neither is Rob's testicular fortitude.

I'm uploading some photos to photobucket now. Looking forward to seeing the video where Chris did NOT roll his runner. (even though I witnessed it from ~2 feet away)

Had a great time with you guys. Do you always manage to turn tame little Sunday morning trail runs into Epic Adventures?

Oh and I got to be the young punk for a change

I took a lot of pictures... I've been on several runs where I came home with maybe 2 or 3 but there was a whole lot of stuff going on that I really felt needed to be documented.
So I don't think photobucket will be done for a while, but here's a teaser pic that's managed to upload...
Rob is just sort of tiptoeing out onto the ice to see if it will hold him. This is the start of where things began to diverge from the tame little run I was expecting.

Probably wouldn't have gotten as many comments if I had!

Took me longer to get home and just finished dinner. What a day, lots of fun with a few exciting moments. Thanks Rob, Jim & Eric for being there and providing your own moments.

Hats off to Rob & Jim for holding true to staying the trail especially since the trail no longer existed. Pics to believe it. Well done guys, Eric and I chose to meet them on the other side choosing not to add too much drama to the rest of the day. I will never acuse Rob of being a wuss again, the man outdid himself today!

My camera batteries died at the mud hole so I probably have some boring ones I'll unload tonight.

So, is this sort of behavior to be expected? Or is it unique to these few?

This was an EVENTFUL outing. While trips are typically well enjoyed, this one stands out due to the trail washouts and trees to clear.

Instead of simply "driving trail" we spent a fair bit investigating, debating, and deciding how to handle the various sections. Icing on the cake, IMO.

I could see going back next weekend to tackle the HUGE tree (even though the trail, beyond it, is too degraded to run).

I didn't know it was your first FR run, Eric. We usually have fun but today was a bit out of the ordinary due to trail conditions as Jim said. I have to say you fit right in and it was good to have you along.

I won't say anything about your spotting!

I was just teasing Jim and Rob with that statement. My first trip with the club just happened to be Pole Hill with Jim and Rob. First time out with my brand new jk as well. We ended up doing two other trails that day. They were still going when I headed home about 5 PM.

I really enjoy wheelin with Jim and Rob. Have been on numerous runs with each since my first. The first while not being anywhere near an epic was a bit more than I had expected.

    Just some good natured ribbing...

PS Really enjoy wheeling with Chris as well. He just didn't happen to be along on that first run. Otherwise I would be teasing him too.

Tom, was that the day we went to Rock Creek, after Pole Hill, and we encountered the pine tree across the decently snow covered trail?

It was on that day, sawing through the ~1' dia pine tree that I said - chain saw. Well, today - somewhat a first, that tool was put to good use (and I considered not taking it along).

This is the first part of the trail were we saw extensive damage from the rains and floods.

To my amazement, Jim and Rob were seriously discussing things like shovels and ramps and such. I quickly volunteered to take pictures.

Fortunately, Jim's Barbie shovel broke and that idea was scrapped.

He must have had a pressing need to do something silly however as he promptly drove his rig into this.

Some good driving and some excellent spotting (by Rob) got him out of it though and we were on our way again.

A bit later, a small branch was blocking our way on the trail. I've seen this sort of thing fixed before with a hatchet or small saw or something. Not with this group. Jim whips out a set of jumper cables, a 1.1 gigawat inverter and an electric chainsaw. Most impressive! (and again, I helped out by taking pictures) For some reason this setup didn't work too well when hooked up to Rob's rig and I teased him a little bit about the inadequacies of his alternator. In retrospect this innocent, good natured ribbing may have led to some of the later shenanigans.
