Default DS Road Grand Junction to Moab

Moab is calling me, I'm thinking of an October or November trip... so there is a road, DS road that goes from Grand Junction over to Moab through the desert that looks awesome, much nicer than I-70 in Utah. Has anyone done this, or maybe Castleton Gateway rd? http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=277

I think I need one of those old, windshield mounted spot lights - where you can aim and point the spot light from inside the cab. I'd stick a camera atop the light and would be able to aim the camera while driving.

that's a good idea, Jim, and I can see why that video made you think it! I thought about putting the gopro suction cup mount on the power windows in our forester for incab control. ofcourse you lose the mirror function...

Hey Paul, I've never checked it out but there's a sign by the entrance to Top of the World in Moab that has a map of Kokopelli (I'm pretty sure) Trail that goes from there to Grand Junction. Somewhere I got the impression that it's more challenging than DS road but I'm not 100% sure. It might be worth checking out.

"entrance to Top of the World in Moab that has a map of Kokopelli"

Here's a link to a fairly detailed explanation of the 4x4 route on the Kokopelli trail with a really good Google Earth KML and a GPS track.

kokopelli looks awesome. he passes some Jeeps that look like rentals to me at about 6 min. next trip there is for sure along that road, thanks Chris and Gary!! this is the trail off the back of a bike, apparently he goes to Moab for lunch from Rabbit Valley in Mcinnis canyon / grand Junction along the kokopelli trail. that's cool.

I watched the complete Cruise Moab video above. A lot of the harder obstacles shown are actually on the Top of the World trail although it looks like some cool ascent and descent roads along the way

Where's that Gary? I know Kokopelli goes beyond the Dewey Bridge area which is where I'd take it to. It doesn't include TOTW but they do intersect, right?

About 2:25 they're at the Dewey Bridge, not sure what water they're crossing, at 4:34 it sure looks like going up TOTW. AT 6:25, creeping up to the edge.

On this picture, Dewey Bridge is circled in Red, TOTW highlighted in Yellow, then the trail continues on to Moab. I think it goes up porcupine rim as well.
