    Default Shooting Range Blackhawk?

I read somewhere that there is a shooting range above Blackhawk west of 119 does anyone know of this range? I cannot remember where I read about it and wanted to go up there tomorrow. Also how far away from the public roads do you have to be to shoot on National park land?

You're legally allowed to shoot in any National Forrest...of course with a few restrictions. The link above is a great resource for all that info.

    Straight from the website:

    1. You are at least 150 yards from a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation area or occupied area.

    2. You are not shooting across or on a National Forest System Road or adjacent body of water.

    3. You are not shooting in any manner or place where any person or property is exposed to injury or damage as a result of such discharge.

    4. You are not firing any tracer bullet or incendiary ammunition.

Sean, are you heading up that way for a specific reason? Going gambling after or anything? If not, i'd look into going up Northeast to the Pawnee National Grasslands. I always go up Northeast of Greeley and there are lots of great places to shoot. However if you're looking to shoot a firearm that requires a backdrop, up in the mountains might be a better idea considering Pawnee is mostly flatlands.

Sure is a difference! National Parks don't allow shooting, National Forests do.

IIRC, there are two shooting ranges on the St. Vrain up near the Peak to Peak (never been to them though)...

Google maps - centered on the areas:
    http://goo.gl/maps/R6sbm

    http://goo.gl/maps/8fu7E

And nearby, on Bunce, I see folks shooting in an open area with a decent dirt background. I think the item centered on the map is it. I do not believe a 4x4 is needed to get there if entering from the northeast entrance - if from the southeast entrance, higher clearance might be needed.

What is public shooting range etiquette for placing targets when others are shooting nearby? Do folks wait and tend targets together (thus no shooting happening) or do folks call a cease fire to tend a target individually?

You can't. Its illegal. Don't believe its even legal to bring a firearm into a Natl Park unless you are law enforcement.

Obama overturned decades long ban on firearms in Nat. Parks and Wildlife Refuges, you can have your gun for protection, just no hunting or recreational shooting in the Parks. Edit: but now they want to take em away from us :( . How many folks were on lockdown in Boston wishing they had a firearm, while a guy(terrorist with a gun and IED's) having no fear of dying was running thru their hood?

I did get some sleep before going to work Friday night and then headed up apex to the national forest land and found a nice area for us to shoot, We all had a good time and everyone did good shooting. Finally got home around 7:30 in the evening and after a full 22 hr day and crashed on the couch about 8:30 last night.
