Going through some hiking planning stuff and had this bookmarked; I can't recall if I've already posted it here, but even so it's worth a second look. Her artwork at the end is fantastic too.

maybe you're just joking but do you think people have absolutely any control over what State they're born in? They're just imaginary lines man, we're all American. Are my kids as special as these other "natives"? They were born in Colorado too. Sorry but the way the word "native" is used in Colorado makes me cringe so hard, as if being born here somehow provides someone more rights or in anyway at all makes them better than another American, because their parents happened to live here when they were born. It's honestly the most bizarre thing about Colorado, would love if that mindset would just die off.

Nice vid. Yes, the "art diary" is a nice long term memento for the trip.

In my view - not better - just a call-out for (potentially) being "different". I was not born here - though I embrace the state I moved to and the aspects it engenders - mountain life, western life, independence, help your neighbors, ruggedness. That's what "native" says to me - a "Colorado" lifestyle.

If "native" would be a common term for folks in New York City (or LA or SanFran), I'd assume it would have a mindset a whole lot different than the mindset of "native" for Colorado.

Not "better" - just calling out "different". That's how I see it.

All those are absolutely wonderful and great I hope more and more people who live in Colorado share that. By your definition would you consider yourself a Native and put Native Bumper Stickers on your car or wear Native Colorado themed clothing?

Personally, I do not get that same sense from the people I talk to that feel the need to tell me they are a Colorado Native within the first 5 minutes of meeting them. I also don't get that feeling when I see Native stickers paired with NO VACANCY. I view it as hostile towards anyone who is not a Native especially when "Natives" talk about Texans and Californians. It's just so odd to me, no other place does this. If you move to Texas and want to consider yourself a Texan all Texans welcome you with open arms to celebrate being Texan and all about Texas. The word Native strictly prohibits what you describe as a welcoming to the same culture.

    1) Would I consider myself a native or put that tag on me - nope. I was not born here, though even if I was, I hope I'd have the same personality as I have as I type these words. If you look at my vehicles - no bumper stickers or symbols (thus if I were a native, said sticker wouldn't be displayed). I try to keep a low profile and let my word and handshake speak.

    2) In your view of "natives" being hostile to others. I can see it. A stereotype might exist. In certain aspects, [edit: I feel that] Colorado is a state filled with warped people (sadly). Colorado has a 50+ year history of being a state that favors death over life. The recent law is another stone in Colorado's path of death.

Of note - politics and religion are allowed on the forum (saying as a member, not the admin). I went looking for those topics in the rules a year or so ago and was surprised to see they are not forbidden. The primary focus is to keep conversation civil and productive and not derogatory. If any consider my #2 paragraph comments to be negative, kindly let me know - I'm open to productive discussion.

I'm Brooklyn born and bred so like most New Yorkers I feel I'm doing you all a favor by being here. I should say "Y'all" to include Texans and their bad spelling. You may have noticed the sun shines brighter around me, you're welcome for that and all the little intangibles that make New Yorkers special and universally welcome. We can't all be east coast awesome, but even if you're from yucky California or somewhere in the middle like horrible Lakewood, the important thing to remember is that we're not Canadian.

Apparently this has come up so often that it's on the homepage for Golden Gate Canyon State Park:

    "UBER/LYFT/CarShare Customers:

Please note that while those services will drop customers off at the park, they will not accept requests for rides for those leaving the park (we are not in their pick-up search area). There is little to no cell coverage on park so make sure you have set plans on how to return home before you come up. Rangers / park staff do not offer rides back into town."

It's a little weird that they won't just charge you more and come get you. Since my wife doesn't drive anymore once in a while I find myself needing a ride down the mountain and while the rideshare services will bring me home, if I want to get picked up in Ned I end up making a two stop trip, Boulder -> Ned -> where I really want to go. The driver calls me from Boulder saying they can't find me, I tell them start the clock, then drive up to Ned and pick me up.

Sometimes I have to try real hard to not criticize other people's ways of enjoying car culture. At the end of they day we're all enjoying these machines and that's cool, but this is one of those times.

Just took my tent like this down from my garage rafters where it has been sitting open since I came back from camping with it half folded and bungee corded to the roof rack. I was so mad at it I would have thrown it away if it would have fit in my trash can. I had to hose it off, it was super dusty from being up there so long, after it's dry I'm trying this.

How to fold up your Pop Up privacy tent
    1) create a taco
    2) make a frog face
    3) line up the eyes
    4) close the mouth
