I spent 5 hours snow blowing for neighbors. Two neighbors are in Mexico for spring break, one is in HI. I asked one of them if I could borrow the snow blower and I'd do their sidewalks and driveways as well. Then they asked me to do the HI people too as I didn't realize they were also out of town. Then I offered to help some kid but he said his brother was coming home soon. Then I got my other neighbors who are home but no snow blower. Then I got the ones next to them who were out there with no snow blower, then asked another neighbor if he wanted me to hit his sidewalk and driveway, then saw some lady three houses down doing hers so I went to help her.... good thing I have unlimited PTO! I finally got back in at 1pm. Nice thing is I work 7-4 so I only had 3 hours to go! haha

4 got 7” in Longmont. I just let it melt. Sidewalk was clear by 1pm. Driveway by sundown. Backed out of the garage with snow on the drive in a Rav4 and was on unplowed city streets before 8 am.

It's already looking like the walk up availability I saw earlier has vanished. Not a huge surprise, but I will stay optimistic.

Private sector outpacing the government. These will replace gas stations.

"As our customers and members continue to look for ways to save money and live better, I am excited to announce our plans at Walmart and Sam’s Club in the U.S. to make electric vehicle (EV) ownership more accessible, reliable, convenient and affordable for them across the country. By 2030, we intend to build our own EV fast-charging network at thousands of Walmart and Sam’s Club locations coast-to-coast. This would be in addition to the almost 1,300 EV fast-charging stations we already have available at more than 280 U.S. facilities.
With a store or club located within 10 miles of approximately 90% of Americans, we are uniquely positioned to deliver a convenient charging option that will help make EV ownership possible whether people live in rural, suburban or urban areas. Our goal is to meet the needs of customers and members where they live and open the road to those driving across the country. Easy access to on-the-go charging is a game-changer for drivers who have been hesitant to purchase an EV for concerns they won’t be able to find a charger in a clean, bright and safe location when needed."

I agree, these are ideal locations for EV chargers along with malls and grocery stores. The gas station as we know it will be phased out. What will be interesting is when we get to a point where over 50% of cars on the road are EV, will there be enough business to support all the gas stations along interstates we have now? The range anxiety between fill ups currently for EVs might change to gas cars at that point!

Peter Zeihan thinks the EV push is gong to end very quickly. There just isn't enough raw material production.

Toyota has been pushing hydrogen for 20 years! There is not enough backing from other places for it to go mainstream though.

All the major manufacturers are throwing all their R&D into electric, there is no going back at this point.. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out though.

Jeep is full in. These are the power stations Jeep is rebranding and installing at trailheads. Starting cost is only about 60k, I can see putting one of these at an offgrid cabin and running the whole thing off it without needing permits or any infrastructure.

They're all over already, and not just by Jeep. This one is in the center of the universe, Brooklyn NY, my birthplace. I miss NY sometimes, the English language is at it's most beautiful when used with the proper inflections.

My wife said some magic words to me this morning, "There's water dripping from the light fixture in the big bedroom downstairs. I think it's something bad."

Turns out a valve in our dishwasher died recently and leaked out last night, worked it's way through the floor and ceiling. I was relieved it was just an appliance and not a pipe, and I got to tear out everything down to and including subfloor today. Best surprise was that the shut off valve for the dishwasher was also non-functional, when i turned the water back on... so new dishwasher and plumbing bits are coming Saturday, as well as new subloors, finished floors, base trim and . I made the hole in the basement ceiling with my hand, the sheet rock was that soft, I guess I'm replacing that too. That was a second spot it was dripping from, lucky me. Fortunately-ish we had a major kitchen remodel planned for July and are taking the wall down between the affected basement room and another so if it had to happen it's the best places for it.
