BLM PROPOSES RULE TO LIMIT ROPED AND AERIAL RECREATION TO PROTECT WILDLIFE IN MINERAL AND HELL ROARING CANYONS
"MOAB, Utah — The Bureau of Land Management proposes a rule to protect vital wildlife habitat from increasing encroachment of recreational uses by limiting roped and aerial activities, such as ziplining, slacklining, climbing, rappelling, rope swinging, BASE jumping, parachuting and skydiving in Mineral and Hell Roaring canyons located approximately 30 to 43 miles west of Moab, Utah. The proposed rule will be open for public comment for 60 days after tomorrow’s publication in the Federal Register.
Wildlife species, including raptors and desert bighorn sheep, depend on areas with limited human presence to have the best chance of survival and to successfully reproduce."
Has everyone made it through the cold snap - water pipes intact?
(no issue for me - though I am looking to enjoy the warm-up)

Power steering froze on The Ranger. But it needs a good fluid flush.

It's nice to have some enjoyable temps outside.
Will that be the last of the single digit temps for the season?
Hope so!
Best part of Colorado winter.....

I guess more contact surface is always better, but I don't think anything but chains would have made a difference. And not hitting the gas at odd moments...
I would have intentionally driven into the snowbank.

I think this is a mistake, should have been left up to CPW to handle on it's own.
"Wolves were reintroduced in Idaho in 1994 and 1995, when wildlife officials transplanted packs from Canada. “We expected slow, steady growth and we got extremely fast growth,” said Roger Phillips, public information supervisor for the Idaho Fish and Game."

Not sure I agree with this, there are plenty of things in life to challenge the mind aside from map skills, but I do like paper maps. I usually don't use GPS navigate trails unless they're hard to follow for whatever reason or maybe are in a web of trails without markers. I find that by the time I go somewhere I've researched it enough to have a general idea of where I am. When we're on Overland trips I often just pull up Google maps and see where we are, I have most of Colorado and Utah saved offline.
I'm surprised to see the heavy snowfall outside this morning! I have not been paying attention to weather and to awake to a nice 7" to 10" outside - that surprised me.
A nice video out of the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden - Why don't trains use CABOOSES anymore?
(it'd be nice if he included a short bit on the new technology FRED device - like that of the roller bearings)

Wrapping up re-sealing the rainfly on my 7 year old tent, did a Nikwax DWR treatment in the fall that loosened ALL of the seam tape, so I had to peel it all inch by inch and apply a seam sealer after cleaning. I am fairly impressed with the results so far.
After I get the entry ways done I am gonna pack the gear up and head to Moab, probably tomorrow morning to see if I can snag some permits midweek for the white rim trail.
I also want to do Top of the World for the photo op, and then do hells revenge also now that I know the line for hell's gate.
Worst case I can sleep in the Jeep, but I am looking forward to walking out the door and rolling with the punches.
