    Default MSV-Coney Flats

A cold, damp day on the trails, but a fun one. A little snow on the trails in spots, but not bad conditions.

The only issue I know of was Rick's ARB compressor stopped working, so he didn't have his locker for much of Coney (not that he needed it). Rick and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it, but Jim saw the problem, explained it and recommended a fix. Retaining nut, a few cents. FrontRange4x4 member's expertise and helpfulness, priceless.

    Pics from MSV

    2) Chris on the gatekeeper
    3) Me at the main obstacle
    4) Jim at the main obstacle
    5) Ditto

    More pics after dinner.

It was great to get out today and while the weather was on the cold side I had fun. Good to finally meet Rick & Rain and it's always nice to wheel with Rob & Jim. Today's bonus was having Hypoid/Mike on his 1st run with us. Too bad Sean didn't make it, I was looking forward to seeing his truck in action.

I guess I need to get my camera out of the truck to see if I got any good pics. Thanks for the good day Rob, Mike, Jim & Rick!

Thanks for the pics guys. Is that obstacle on MSV or Coney? I've run MSV a couple times but never Coney... I remember having to do an "s" shaped approach to the main obstacle on MSV - but it looks different from the pictures as I recall. Looks like you had fun.

Jackie, that is the obstacle you're thinking about on MSV. There are three lines: the "S" through the rocks, over the rocks on the left side, or between the big rock and a tree on the right side. Jim, Rick and I took the right side, which is doable with SWB rigs or monsters like Rick's truck. Chris and Mike did the "S".

Just walked in. Buffalo Wild Wings to finish off a great day. Good to finally meet you Chris. Mike it was good meeting you also. Rob,Jim enjoyed the company as well. It was a perfect day with really no incidents except at the end most of our brakes froze and we couldnt move forward. I have lotsa 507B pinstriping too. We have no pixs due to dead battery, sorry. Looking forward to some snow runs.

'Twas a great day to be on the mountian! Even though it was damp and chilly, the weather gave our trip a surreal quality.

    Headed up from Lyons:

    Rob on the first obstacle.

    Jim's turn!

I understand why Rick wants bigger tires...

The current tires, still have trouble reaching the ground.

I think this was on the first part of Coney Flats.

    Everyone at the top.

At the reservoir, de-icing our equipment. The bad sound my Jeep made, was the sound of a transfer case chain slipping. It took a few tries to get the thing out of 4-Lo.

I took Highway 72 through Wondervu to get home. The fog really played with my focal point, and my perception. I have to admit, the mountains are my drug of choice. I got my fix on this trip.

I took Left Hand Canyon Road back to Boulder and the fog has visibility down to 10 - 20 feet for a couple miles. After clearing the thick fog I was really caught by the frost/snow on the pines and the mist in the air. Colorado scenery is the best.

I'll get my camera out of the truck this morning.

I hope to have pix up by tonight.

Did anyone else have frozen brakes?

The fog was no issue for me - went back the same way / down the St. Vrain canyon to Lyons. Down near Lyons I was able to unlock the one frozen front hub.
