WELCOME ABOARD ! sounds like a real nice CJ 5 . We have / had a '74 CJ 5 that is slowly being built up , hope its as built as yours someday . Our daughter is getting into wheeling so we gave the CJ to her and we have the Yota . Hope to see you on the trails .

Thank You to everybody making me so welcome.

Jim/Annie it takes a lot of work, but I love those old CJ's. Prior to my 73 I had a 68 and a 57 CJ5's. I did have a couple problems on the Moon Gulch trail, My alternator belt came off (lucky that I did not loose it and that it stayed intact, so I was able to put it back on) and my starter relay was sticking. Other then that it did great. I learned a valuable lesson and that is to carry an extra belt. I also learned that the oversized battery that I installed, was a good idea. I hope to see you and your daughter on the trail.

    0.02 - keep or toss!

A tip I learned from the group (Perhaps Peter Brody posted it) was to carry some spare hose clamps. A good way to carry them is to wrap them around some of the hoses (mid-hose, not too tight, out of the way, always ready).

Your comment on the belt tickled my brain on this: Just before the Moon Gulch trip I secured spare belts and radiator hoses (the old units, pulled when I installed new hoses & belts) to the underside of the seats, using zip-ties. They're always in the vehicle and are out of the way - but yet easy enough to get to should a spare be needed.

That is a great idea, especially with the limited room in the jeep. I am going to replace the belts and hoses this weekend, but keep the old ones in the jeep as a backup.
