Thinking of transforming this trailer, old Toyota back half
Into something like one of these, What is your opinions everyone
May eve nixs the trailer idea and convert the bed of the truck to something like this
That is really cool.
Either would be pretty cool.
I actually like the trailer idea. That way you don't have to pack up to go wheeling.
Another vote for a trailer.
You'll have to re-spring your truck for load capacity, if you try and put all that stuff on the back.
You'll have to build one for me when you are done!!!
only real thing to consider when building the trailer is if you want to sleep in it or not since the rest is usually the same
yes Robert that would be the main reason for building it, that would get us up off the ground which would be nice since we are getting older and the back cannot handle being on the ground.
If you go the "truck route" id consider buying the trailer from you if you wanna sell it
I will let you know once I get started which ever way I go
Get on it man! I am looking forward to the progress pics. : )
All I know is... I want one. Looking forward to seeing what you do.
After having drug my m416 with RTT for a couple trips last year I'm still deciding which way I want to go long term.
The nice thing about the trailer is you can leave it ready to go and leave it at camp while you are out exploring or wheeling for the day, but if you're going to do that then why not just get a hard sided camper or pop-up camper if all you're going to do is leave it at camp? It'll be nicer to sleep in and afford more room for rainy days.
If you decide to take your trailer with you on the trail you have a bunch of extra space for longer trips and can be self sufficient much longer. However, when you do have a trailer behind you on the trail you will go MUCH slower, and not all trails are do-able with a trailer. I took mine over tin cup last year. All the sudden even on an easy trail you notice how many more bumps and sharp corners there are. Also now when you have to pass or let someone pass it's much more difficult. Another very likely problem is not being able to continue on a trail due to snow or another obstacle and now turning around with a trail becomes much more difficult.
Like I said I haven't made up my mind which way I'm going to go long term yet, but hopefully this is some food for thought and will help you decide which way you want to go, and be more happy with your decision.
Here is one idea I had as for a layout of things on the trailer if I did not change the bed and build the tear drop body.
Sean, the attachment is not working, says to inform admin. EDIT: nevermind, as soon as I posted this and returned to the page the attachment was open.
Looks like a great set up. I prefer trailers for many reasons. The dedicated truck is nice if you have that purpose. I would suggest going through

For many ideas and to see what has/has not worked for others!
