Does anyone know what a decent lift is on a 1990 jeep wrangler?
he got this jeep a couple of weeks ago and wants to start 4 wheeling. i will try to get him on the forum, but if not then i will need some opinions.

Rough country r cheap lifts. Not the best but cheap
are those the jeeps with leaf springs front and rear?
Find a spring over axle kit, and this should net like 4-5" something like that.
Rough country sells just spring over for like $75. everything else you need to put together on your own.
Othwerise for price 6" lift from rough country is nice for $1000. But for $500 you can have the better BDs 6" lift. or spend less on BDS and get the smaller lifts.
Bds is as good as it gets, thats why and thats what I run. U can go cheap on RC or pro comp but it will sag bad and you will hate it quickly. But they are cheap..
X2 on the spring over axle lift. Check out Dan's stuff over at RuffStuff.com. His mounts are much stronger than the RC stuff. Just call with axle tube sizes and tell him what you're doing the lift on and he'll take care of you.
Well, it looks like he is going to be joining FR, but i think i convinced him to do a 2 inch shackle lift. he doesn't want to deal with all of the brake lines and other mods. just a couple inches of lift.
before he joins i want to know if anyone knows how to replace a spun (cam shaft if im correct) bearing. i told him that someone on here has most likely done it before and could help you.
and i know fordboy could prob help as he has rebuilt a couple motors but i think hes still in cali working ><
I had a rancho lift on my YJ mine then went SOA. It was actually pretty cheap, at least the way i did it. (not ideal but had no problems) Biggest/most expensive was the SYE and rear driveshaft. Other than that i used stock springs. Relocated the stock front brake lines (free and easy!) For the rear i just undid the the clip that holds the line near the frame i believe. Drop pitman arm. I reused the hardware such as ubolts and u bolt plates... Really didnt cost me much, maybe about 400 for sye and driveshaft, 50 for spring plates, 40 for DPA, 50 for antiwrap bar. And a few bucks for a buddy to weld it all up. =500ish... Did it all myself besides the welding. If you have any questions just ask. Best flex is with SOA. I was real impressed even with stock springs!
He wants to do just a simple lift for now. until he fixes his motor, and other stuff. i told him to start with the shackles because you are going to need them anyways, and they are cheap.
Spun bearing=trip to the machine shop.
Does it make any sounds, how many miles on the engine?
i have no clue. i can ask him later today.
My first Jeep was a YJ and my first lift was with shackles, I think you're giving him good advice. An advantage of longer shackles is that they tilt the differentials in a favorable way.
