    Default 2012-01-15 Seven Mile Creek

Eric, along with Chris, and I traveled ~5 of the "7" miles on what was a nice weather Sunday (with a good cloud formation).

The trail was a mix of hard pack snow, bare ground, and slippery ice.

Highlight photos are below while my full set is here:
    www.JimWilliamson.net/automobile/2012-01-15--trail-sevenmile-creek/

Eric and Chris have some photos too...

Nice pictures. Its been awhile since i've run that trail. As a matter of fact...the last time I ran it I hopped out of my truck with it still running to take some pictures. I had a friend with me who wanted to stay inside because it was cold/snowy. Well, he decided to hop out after a few min of taking pictures and managed to hit the auto door locks. Yup...I was locked out of the truck with the motor running.

I managed to find a guy down in a little town at the bottom of the trail called Rustic. He drove up with some tools and had the door open in a matter of minutes. Only cost me 80 bucks haha.

That really makes you feel smart, doesn't it? Happened to me when I stepped out of whatever I was driving to add a layer. Wind blew the doors shut. Since I was quite a ways away from anyone ( I was getting ready to do some back country ice climb) and my COFFEE was still inside. I broke the sunroof with an ice tool....The coffee especially, and then the near empty gas tank were the deciding factors...

You guy's ever want to run my area, let me know! When my Jeeps cannot make it, it is time to bust out the ATV! A buddy of mine has the tracks for his Polaris, they are the bomb!

    {chuckle} re locked doors.

`was up at Y of the Rockies earlier this year - when the first large snowfall happened - with my sister and her kids. Getting ready to leave, we had a foot of snow to clear from the cars. I went out and started my car to warm it up while I cleared snow from it. No issue for my car as I have a spare key. But when I went to clear hers I paid careful attention that the locks were unlocked when I closed the door. I mentioned that to her and she easily said, when I do that I roll the window down a few inches "just in case". Lightbulb goes off - how simple! That's now my go-to action for "those" situations.

    FWIW

Whenever I have to drive a customer's car/rig I roll down the windows a bit the first time I 'lock' it or if I have to start the engine and then look under the hood to check something for the same reason. An ex girlfriend got a newer Jeep Liberty. It had one of the dumbist, most lameass, and monkey engineered, 'safety' features on a car I have ever seen. The doors automatically locked after the motor had been on for 30 seconds. I know other vehicles have this "safety' feature, too, and I am sure that a similar group of over paid monkeys engineered it. But then, I don't like ABS braking systems one damn bit either, for much the same reason: stupid engineering...and the fact that these 'features' imply that the manufactures are actually selling their cars/vehicles to a bunch of cretins with driver licenses who can't make simple decisions like locking their car doors, how to brake, if the seat belts are on...the list is endless....

I want my doors locked, thank you, but I can actually make that decision myself...

Not much snow on south facing areas, north facing had a fair amount.

Here are more pics of the trip. Its hard to take pics when trying to hang on to the ATV.
I guess the last one was of my last oil filter change. It didnt want to come off. Off topic I guess.

HAHA.....looks like the typical Toyota 3.4L oil change scenario.....I have three different filter wrenches....one of them sort of works sometimes....I would relocate the oil filter, but I have no extra room under the hood, so every time I go to change the oil it is an interesting proposition....Not one of Yota's better designs. They did get better with the oil filter stuff on the newer junk and made it not only easy to get to, but added a clever catch/drain under the filter. To compensate for this, they cleverly ran the exhaust cross over so that it sticks down below the fame rail in the front, and under the rear bumper in the rear, both places guaranteed to get nailed on rocks....

Not trying to change subject, but I would like to test my Blazer out soon. I recently put a 400 engine with aluminum heads in and a T350 tranny (was a SM465) and 1/2 ton axles with 3.42 gearing and limited slip front/rear. The fuel is a little old so I need to burn it off before filling it and seeing where I am at with tuning and all.
Are Crystal mountain or Moody hill open? I know Kelly Flats is closed.

    Jim,
I know how much you like early runs, you going to go? Gotta work Saturdays. That and I still have a little work on it to get it where I would feel ok to test it.
