I was told about this by Doug at Altitude Steel. Although the first video is in Chinese, the actual footage is pretty damn cool. I had never heard of this before.

My old man has used these doing tool & die. He calls them mortising drills.
water jet will do that too.....
I liked the slow motion video that lets you see exactly what is going on.
One of my neighbors works for one of the biggest suppliers of software for water jets, plasma cutters, and CNC stuff. They get to tour some of the big plants where a lot of really neat stuff gets done. He said that it is pretty unbelievable.
That's pretty cool. I've always been a square peg in a round hole. This changes everything!
I don't even want to see the drill, new svelte shape or not.
That is REALLY cool.
Huh I have never seen one of those before, pretty slick! Thanks Pete for posting this one. We used a punch press to do all our square, rectangular, round holes in plate steel back in the day, worked great but damn noisy!
I hadn't either. Punch press, for sure, but not the drill. That is a clever bit of engineering.
What will they think of next?
Hopefully nothing!!!
My mind is blown.
i like holes more.
