    Default 12/3 or 12/4

    Hello!

I'd like to get out on one of these two days. Anyone else want to go and have a day preference?

Also, anyone have any trail ideas considering it's in the middle of winter?

Oops, didn't realize that was going on. I'm going to RSVP yes for the Christmas Caravan.

On that note, let's try to plan a run for 12/4.

Anyone have any trail ideas or recommendations for this time of year that aren't too far from the Denver area?

I think all of the gated trails in the Boulder and Canyon Lakes districts will be closed by then. Up here, that leaves part of Bunce and Ironclads, Miller Rock, Rock Creek and Left Hand Canyon.

    What Rob said.

A combination of Bunce/Ironclads would be a good run if there is enough snow. Ironclads is usually a gas with snow on it. I have never done Miller Rock with snow and that is across the street, so to speak.

The other option is south of town on any of the Gultches trails:Hackett, Metberry and Longwater. There are also a lot of FS roads that aren't closed off the south end of Rampart that get entertaining with snow:FS 322, 323, 324, all north of Mt Herman. These are South Monument Creek, North Monument Creek and Ice Cave Creek on the top maps. Well's books have other names for these.

    Thanks guys!

I like the Bunce/Ironclads idea. I haven't run those trails yet, but being a 4-5, is Ironclads doable with the snow/ice? I was amazed at what a little snow did to a simple level 3 trail.

I think the 4/5 rating is based on the old Ironclads, when the playground was open and it went all the way to the top. It's maybe a 2/4 now.

That said, it can be difficult to get up the loop in either direction if there's much snow on the trail. I've been up it in the snow and been rejected a couple of times, too. If you try it and there's too much snow, you can always zip over to Allenspark and run Rock Creek. If there's a foot or less there, you can have some fun.
