    Default Moab - October 2011

I got home yesterday afternoon from the best trip out to Moab. Eight trails, only shut down once (by Rose Garden Hill) and some minor damage. The trails? Kane Creek Canyon, Poison Spider Mesa, Golden Spike, Gold Bar Rim, Steel Bender, Sevenmile Rim, Top of the World and Strike Ravine. Not too shabby for a mostly stock Jeep.

    Kane Creek Canyon

    Poison Spider Mesa

Golden Spike took a little work. The winch cable came out two times. Somewhere along the trail (probably in the Golden Crack) I lopped into my C.B. antenna wire with the back bumper and also popped the license plate mounting bracket off.

    Golden Spike

Steel Bender had a couple hairy down hill spots along the way. I crossed paths with a good number of puzzled looking mountain bikers on SB. One guy asked, “Where’s your lift and big tires?” My reply, “Appears I don’t need them.” I guess that one really angered the rock gods. Not long after that I managed to crush the steering stabilizer on a boulder...ha ha It had to come off to finish the trail.

    Steel Bender

The only other no bueno moment was on Strike Ravine. One of the TPMS valve stems got destroyed while navigating through a tight spot.

    Sevenmile Rim

One of the few places I had cell reception at Sand Flats - the top of Baby Lion's Back

What’s a trip to Moab without looking at some rock art???

My favorite (and a nice hike to boot) the Moab Maiden.

Great pics! Thanks for sharing. Big lifts and tires are for the portly 4 doors, you're fine!

The stock location for the ss is bad, I squished mine pretty quick. And I busted up my license plate housing too, which dented the fender.

Glad that you had a good time! Thanks for the pictures!

We just saw a huge amount of rock art in New Mexico.

You know I love the pictures. I needs to know where these are, the precious rock art.

For those of you who have not wheeled with SCRubicon: the primary reason he can do the type of Moab trails depicted here, with minimal damage, in a stock Rubicon is because he is an excellent driver.

We've had a spring trip two years in a row. I'm game for the next one.

Good stuff, Steve. Rockin' the stocker.

GREAT pics, I'm jealous!! Stock can go to Moab, there are trails for everyone. I took my LJ there with no lift, 31s and the worthless factory LSD and had a blast. Brad tentatively put up dates for right after Jeep safari, and it's already in my schedule.

Moab is one of those places that can test you and your vehicle in a hurry. (there’s stuff out there for everybody from stock to wild custom) The aftermarket skid plates and diff covers sure got a workout…ha ha.. I also wanted to hit Cliff Hanger and Flat Iron Mesa, but figured it would be best not to do them solo. There are trails that I would have absolutely no part of though - like Helldorado, Green Day and Minor Threat. They would be impossible with what I have for a vehicle. My suggestion for Moab? Get out there and give it a crack, but know your limitations. I went out with an 11 year old trail book. Things have changed since then for sure.
