Never does seem to work out to well. But, hey, he's 21 and paid for his own car and insurance. He may not drive for a while, but he can always ride to work with me.

    My kid. Proud momma.

And the bold part...Chris was there, too, and loved to tell me the story about it. They were working at the shop, and they had drinks in those red plastic cups. Nick's was Coke, my dad's was rum and Coke. Nick accidentally picked up Dad's and took a huge swig, thinking it was his own. He was about 7 at the time. He announced that his Coke was flat. Apparently Dad freaked a little and told Chris "DON'T TELL HEATHER!"

But yeah, Nick's been through the ringer with his (biological) dad's drinking. So stupid.

We were at a restaurant in Florida one time with our daughter, Casey, when she was about 8 or 9. She wanted one of those "fancy drinks with an umbrella". So we orderered her a VIRGIN pina Colada.
    EHEM...
A few minutes after the drinks arrived she was nearly passed out in our booth. I asked the waitress what could have gone wrong and she told me the bartender didn't speak english and didn't know what "virgin" meant.

Thanks, Ralph. Or is it Clete? I have such trouble with names.

Fortunately, my memory is still pretty sharp (though all forks in the road on trails seem to look the same to me). How else could I have a job at a respectable newspaper? Or remember the capital of Mongolia? (Ulan Bator) Or the two previous names of Sri Lanka? (Ceylon and Serendip) Or the number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin? (Seven)

(OK, I'm not really sure about the dancing angels.)
