Saxon Mountain Georgetown

Well 3 of us made it for Saxon Mountain. It was a gorgeous day to be rattled and bounced for several hours. Make no mistake this is a rough ride, probably didn't help that we didn't air down. Not sure it would of made much of a difference. But you can't beat the Views, having run it both ways I prefer coming down this trail. One thing is for sure by the time your finished your ready for pavement. We came out Ute Creek which was nearly as rough as Saxon. If I ever have to go again I'll take Cascade Creek or even Spring Creek. The Views from Saxon down on Georgetown are stunning.

I usually run Cascade/Ute and take Saxon down when I do those. Some fun trails.

did that trail when I first moved to CO from flat sea level Florida, just about pooped myself. that may have been the day I started to hate shelf roads. great video!!

My first trip was alone, I was second from the back of the group. The guy behind me took a wrong turn, CB was on the fritz. So I got separated, that was a long trip down. I literally had to get out and look for tracks (Indian style) to find my way down. The group was waiting at the bottom.

And yes it was close to the edge, lots of large rocks had appeared since the last time I ran it (about 3 weeks ago) Makes you spend considerable time watching above you.

A in a H 1 was supposed to come, luckily he didn't make it. There were several tight spots!

Once down that trail was enough for me. Nice views, but ...

That trail definitely has a WOW factor for views, part I do not like is the one tippy part under the overhang, it gives a pucker factor for sure.

I spent some time looking down also, I noticed a huge boulder snagged by a tree. Snagged is not quite the word. This boulder had about 20% of it's mass supported by that tree. Tree looked to have a 4-5" diameter (not much tree holding not much of the boulder). This was right in the middle of a switchback section. So that mass could feasibly cross the trail 3 or more times on it's way down to Georgetown lake. It got my attention!
