Sorry for your loss, I have enjoyed the updates and how happily Java fought it out to the end. She had a great long life with you.

Paul, wish I could have met your best 4 legged freind, my thought and prayers are for you and your wife. Thanks for being a great freind to me out on the trails.

Sad news man, sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry to hear about Java, I don't want to think about the day Taz leaves us; There's no substitute for the way your pup looks up at you in the morning when you're drinking your coffee and they just want a hug.

My hound Sonny
My new dog, Kix. We drove to Grand Junction on Wed to meet him, we'll be bringing him home for good in the morning. He hiked Devils Canyon 3, the Mica Mine and an unnamed trail in McInnis today like a boss. He had never crossed water before, likely never seen running water and was scared of it at first. By the end of the day he was walking through streams. He's in amazing shape for an 11 year old.

Cool!
From the first leash pic - is he a "puller"?
He pulled a little, but mostly just stayed with us. He was so anxious in that clip, he had just left the shelter with new people and didn't know how to act. Its a wonderful shelter, but he's been there a while and is out of sorts. He's really trying to be the best boy he can be, it's sweet.

Kix is awesome. Aside from a little seperation anxiety he's been amazing with everything, even our cats. I had to dig into his past, and the shelter doesn't tell anything, not even a name of the previous owner (good for them!) so I searched homes near Fruita that had sold this year. He's in picture #39 and 40 in his pen. https://www.zillow.com/homes/recentl...87_rect/14_zm/
What a dump... JK! It's beautiful. My heart goes out to the family, it must have been something terrible to give up a dog like this after 11 years.

just curiosity, they donated his pen too so I thought I might see it in a yard, I was expecting to see something rough. I'm so happy to see he came from such a nice place.

Thank you so much Heather. I just showed this to Jahna and she said "oh my god she's so sweet! Tell her I said Thank You!!"
so I asked her "for what?"
"She said she loved my hair!"

Congrats on the new family member! And thank you for rescuing, especially traveling to do so for such a seasoned fellow like Kix

Before and after. Kix hadn't been bathed or groomed in so long they had to cut his collar off him at the shelter. We tried a lot of bathing and brushing, but he just had too many matts so I gave up and shaved him. After getting ridiculous quotes from groomers (up to $400.00) I decided to "learn how to fish" and spent $160.00 on a professional clipper and a #3 skip tooth blade. It took 4 hours over the course of 3 days but should never be that hard again. I found a staple and three live ticks on him. He's loving it, just cannot get enough of being pet or brushed.
That cut suits him so well! You did an awesome job!
