I am looking for a few places to camp, until the high country melts some. Are there any good low areas close to the Denver metro area to go camping right now?

They wouldn't notice.

Moffat Pass area there are plenty of campsites up along the road, and along the base down by the tunnel. There is also Magnolia east by Nederland.
West of Ft. Collins in the Poudre Canyon. If you are wanting something really close to town, you could try Bear Creek Lake (great fishing) or Cherry Creek Reservoir (not so great fishing). From either one, if you burn your burgers and/or dogs, you can just go to Taco Bell.
Ironclads area. Also, might be able to get to some camping spots in the Switzerland Trail area above Boulder.
There is always your backyard.
Pretty much anywhere in the South Platte area. Take Hwy285 to Pine Junction, then head towards Deckers. There are places off of FS 550 (Wellington Lake) but they are close to the road. If you follow the signs to Stoney Pass, the back into FS 211/Wigwam Creek, you will find more secluded places and lose the roadside camping bit.
If you don't mind the Hayman Fire area, The ridgetop just off the parking pullout above the old Molly Gulch campground has some camping spots, as does the area on the other side of Goose Creek. There are also a couple of spots right by Goose Creek on the parking side. You may also walk down into the Molly Gulch campground and camp there. Farther down FS 211 there is also camping. Anywhere off of Tarryall Road works well, too.
The other side of Cheeseman where all the Gulches are offers a lot of camping, too. Yankee Hill area holds a of camp spots, as does the Duck Creek area off of Guenella Pass. Just past Grant, again off Hwy 285, and just before Kenosha Pass, there are FS roads that turn off to your right. This is a huge area of trails in there and there is a mess of camp spots. Those roads wander all around that area, going all the way to Georgia Pass in one direction and then all the way to Como in the other. A topo map is very handy for that area.
