    Default yankee hill snow run

first off thanks to ED,KIETH,HAPPY,ROBERT,ROBERT for helping me fix my rig with the broken front driveshaft. we all met up in idaho springs and we soon got under way. It was a nice day. we made it to residentaul area towards the to top before trail starts. Southpaws3 had to manually put his hubs in. it was icy and snow was abundant. we made it the mud pit and i and Robert B chained up our trucks. the first hill was icy and keith lost traction and went sliding backwards and then side ways

Monsterburban got around hm and did a three wheel motion and got his rear tire 3-4 off the ground. then winched kieth straight

after everyone made it up we went straight thru the clearing to trail that went straight. i was in the lead and breaking the snow with fresh tracks. 400 feet or so the trail came to a end with a massive snow drift that sloped downward. we decided to backup and try another trail. while backing up Happy's tires had a hard time keepimg traction and kept wanting to slide off the trail. after winching help from ed he got back on trail .

Then Ed wanted to try to if the upper hill was passable . after seeing it was the rest of us followed. i was the last one up and then i got stuck then POP, my front driveshaft broke off at the transfer case. i sheared off two bolts and broke one out the side. Ed came back down and helped me get it disconnected and then pulled me up the hill to a flat spot to repared it. we all start searching for 3 bolts some where on our trucks that were the same as the bolts on driveshaft. luckly Kieth had a bucket of spare bolts and had 3 bolts that worked. . after the drivershaft got reinstalled Ed tack welded it for safety. while i was under truck Ed lent Happy chains for his Blazer and Kieth put his chains and Monsterburban even put rear chains on his 44 inch tires. after we got rollin again i didnt want to chance it and turned back while the rest continued. THANKS AGAIN FOR EVERONES HELP .

Once again a great run with a great group, nice seeing everyone again. Rob, Robert, Keith, Ed and I went further up the trail till we ran into a tight spot. Rob took over the lead after Roland went home. We were bashing through all kinds of snow, even Rob ( Monsterburb ) was having some trouble but always made it. We came to a spot where no one had been and was not a good idea to try and continue. Rob was having problems staying on trail so we had to use his rear winch to keep him on trail. We managed to get him to a spot and turned around. Then the rest of us did the same till all were turned around. So now Ed ( Southpaw ) was the new leader. After getting a good start coming back down, more troubles hit us. I was stuck in a drift when I lost my trans and smoke was coming from under the truck. After getting a pull out from Ed I regained limited trans. I was able to get the truck back down under its own power but not home. Rob offered his truck and trail to get it home tomorrow. Ed also was losing his steering at times. After some thought he de sided he could make it home going the back way.

    Carnage....
    Roland- broken front DS
Happy- fried Trans- front driver side 1/4 panel from tree
    Ed- steering
    Robert- broken pass mirror

Thanks for another great run guys and all the help today!!!!! It's late tonight so I will post up pix tomorrow.... Thank you Keith for the ride home

Sounds like a fun time. I have a Robert B crashed out in our basement right now and he didn't get here until almost 10, so I bet everyone was pretty tired. Glad to hear that the carnage wasn't so bad that someone had to leave a rig, but the trans sucks..

Thanks for the pictures and write up! Glad everyone made it back OK. Glad to see Big Robert out and about, even if he can't be reached on the phone........ Seems like his rig is the RIG when it comes to rescuing damaged vehicles!

Might be time to stick a tranny temp gauge in your rig, Happy....

Hey guys. Good to see you and meet some of you guys on the trail. I think the RS started out with almost 30(?) members in our group, not sure of the exact count. We kind of got split up into a bunch of smaller groups from there but fun was had by all! Couldn't have asked for better weather either.
You guys had the big dogs of the woods that day for sure! Glad everyone made it back ok.

We just got it back down and home. It had just enough go in it to get it to the trailer but not on it. So we pulled out my new High Lift and hand winched it on the trailer.... A BIG thanks to Rob for helping get her home
