    Default Now that's an air compressor!



    Not a York or an Oasis, but I just got my Titan Max 12V air compressor.

    This is rated at 160L/min which is ~5.65 CFM @ 0 PSI (max flow rate). The ARB high output compressor is 2.6 CFM @ 0 PSI. My Slime "Heavy Duty" compressor is unrated.

    It's late and cold out tonight so I won't be able to run any tests with it. I'm leaving for Moab in the morning so I'll have to give it a try there. I'm an uber-geek when it comes to these things so I plan on running a series of tests to compare the two.

    Yeah, Santa's gone crazy in our house this year. Also note that the price listed is in Canadian Dollars. This was $265 USD shipped to my door.

    Like I said, I'll post up some data once I get to use it. I'm dying to know if it'll live up the expectations the specs have set in my mind.

    I don't see the resemblence. The MV-50 was replaced by the MV-1050,

    I plan on removing the valve stem to get the tire to 0 PSI then replace the valve stem. Then add pressure in 15 second increments until I exceed 35 PSI (E.g., return to 0, pump for 15 seconds, measure PSI; return to zero, pump for 30 seconds, measure PSI; etc). After I do that for both compressors I can put together a chart that shows the performance of each compressor for my tire size. Given that I can easily show the time required to go from one PSI to another for my tire size. E.g., 15-35 PSI for air-up on the trail.

    I do agree, but who knows it might actually do it. My 60gal home compressor is putting out 10.2 @ 90 psi, Titan is claiming 5.65 @ 0 psi, if that's the case, it's one little badass and not a bad price at $265 considering the ARB High Output is rated only at 2.65 and sells as high $320.

    Even if you get a different result showing half what it's rated at, you still got a decent deal.

    My Puma pump is supposed to fill the 1.5 gallon tank that it attaches to in 90 seconds, and its no slouch. I definitely envy the guys with belt drive york compressors though. This seems to be a small step up in capacity from mine, so its definitely worth it. Can't wait to see if it actually holds up. Giving the flow at 0psi doesn't help much, I'd rather know it at 90psi, which is what most air tools need.

    BTW....Moab? Where's the invite dude?

    Last minute trip with the kids. We'll be going slow and easy for a few hours a day max with a lot of time at the hotel pool. Probably not what the rest of the group is interested in.

    I have the slime one. It takes a while to air 33's from 12-32psi, but it was only $50! That tital one is a beast, and if I had the money, I would get it.

    I've got the Q Industries MV50 SuperFlow Hi-Volume Air Compressor. For the price, I can't complain. It takes a few minutes to air up each tire but the only thing I don't like about it is that you can't just push it on to the valve stem and quick-release it off. You have to screw it on and off. So I have to over-fill my tires because I loose air when taking it off. Is there some sort of adapter I can get to resolve that problem?

    You can put an adapter on, but you're not losing that much air when you unscrew the fitting.

    I have the slime compressor and it works fine for the price. It certainly fills faster than the one I bought from the Flounder, which I think takes so long because it's importing heavier air from Kansas.

    That looks exactly like my Puma, except mine is mounted to a 1 gallon air tank too....



    I think I paid $230 for mine, and it does an okay job. Its no York, but as far as electric ones it does allright.

    You could put an in line air valve in like this one....



    However, like Rob said, you might loose 1psi or less undoing the screw on thing. I would take that over having to hold traditional style tire petcock on.

    Speaking of, 4Crawler (a Toyota vendor who makes a multiple tire deflator system too) has "clip on" style petcocks that look like miniature versions of the quick release style thing on the end of hoses for air tools and such. They clip directly onto the valve stem and seem to be the best solution I have seen for tire filling with slow pumps. Looks like this (the far right one, with the other two being traditional style clip on ones)....



    He sells them for $9.50 each, and I was thinking about ordering one. If anyone else is interested, the let me know and we can maybe set up a group buy. Looks like it screws onto a normal 1/4" NPT thread, but I'll find out for sure if we order them.
