    Re: Anyone into old subies?

Hi Ada! Wow, didn't think I'd see this cute little beast again.

Sometimes I still regret selling the GL, both because it's such a rad little rig and because it's a cruel project to inflict on...

    Re: Adopt-a-Trail Clean-Up Run: 7/9/2022

Crap, I had to pick up an oncall shift over that weekend. Really wish I could join for this.

Re: Red elephant Hill this weekend?

That may still be true about Bill Moore, this is the view from waypoint 16 (before it dips into the valley) on June 9th. You can still take Bill Moore down from Red Elephant though, that part is...

Re: Red elephant Hill this weekend?

Unless it's snowed since June 9th, it's dry and clear.

    Re: Our First 4x4s

My first 4x4 was a bone stock '79 Subaru GL I picked up in 2019. I was browsing craigslist for mini trucks and somehow ended up buying that nugget for $1000. I took it out on some trails with a...

  12. Re: A warm THANK YOU to James for AAT coordination & Welcome Trev

Hey, I love picking up trash. I think it's some combination of environmentalism, moral indignation, and a disgust of I don't like looking at this and if I pick it up, I won't have to see it again....
  13. Re: Trail Creek to Cascade Creek, with a dash of Saxon Mountain

I pieced my setup together for about $300 - alternator, control box and bits, welding leads. There's a write-up on pirate I referenced that I could find again for anyone interested. The premier kit...
  14. Re: Trail Creek to Cascade Creek, with a dash of Saxon Mountain

Well, mystery solved. This 4 banger rattles so hard it cracked the onboard welder bracket. Weird, not even at a weld. If only I had... A welder.
  15. Re: Trail Creek to Cascade Creek, with a dash of Saxon Mountain

Yeah, meaning generically everything running off belts in the front of the engine. For me that's power steering, 2 alternators (onboard welder), water pump, and fan. One of those is very unhappy....
  16. Re: Trail Creek to Cascade Creek, with a dash of Saxon Mountain

Clutch throwout bearing... premature failure, it's been screaming since before the Chinaman's run. Can only press my luck so far.
New clutch while I'm in there.
Rear transfer case will be rebuilt...
  17. Re: Trail Creek to Cascade Creek, with a dash of Saxon Mountain

This was also the last of 7 straight days of wheeling for me, starting from last Sunday's Pickle Gulch run. It's now time to lock my poor Toyota in the garage for a serious maintenance and repair...
  18. Trail Creek to Cascade Creek, with a dash of Saxon Mountain

This was a great day with a great group!

We started off at the base of trail creek road - the original rendezvous point turned out to be a busy touristy location. We had 5 rigs - the 4 rsvp'd...

Re: Clearing Chihuahua Gulch to waypoint 6

It's a beautiful trail! We want to go back when it's fully clear and make the hike to the lake too.
  20. Re: Trail Creek to Cascade Creek - Saturday June 11 2022

I got to the meeting place a bit early - Phoenix gold mine is really bumping and it feels inappropriate to take up their limited parking so I've posted up at a gravel lot next to the road entrance...

Re: Last Minute Make-Up Run - Saturday 6/11

I might be in - I'm wheeling Saturday, the question is just where. If I can throw in a suggestion, how about trail creek road to south spring gulch, then out cascade creek if you're feeling saucy in...

Clearing Chihuahua Gulch to waypoint 6

We took the two old Toyotas up Chihuahua gulch today. The water crossing at trailsoffroad waypoint 5 was about a foot deep, with a 4 foot drift on the far shore. Tried winching up it but we were just...
