Thanks Paul, a 12-pack of your favorite suds perhaps? :D
It's yours, I can PM you my address and leave it on my porch, you can get it 24/7 whenever, no need to call first or anything. i can also just bring it if we're on a trail run together. I don't drink, but I'm a big dispensary fan, especially sledgehammer type kush and sticky indicas. :thumb: I could also use some big carboard or masonite or plywood pieces, I'm making a fiberglass box about 32" x 20" x 48" and need to make a mold. If you don't have anything to trade you can just call me pretty.
Trent has a pretty sweet set-up on his LJ - functional on both street and trail....On the shorter wheelbase TJ, 33s will have more functional clearance with break-over angle and such (the longer wheelbase can have some traction advantage though in certain terrain conditions). I run 33x10.5 on my even shorter wheelbase cj5 and it feels like it can keep up with longer 4dr jeeps and such that are on 35s.At the same time, its pretty amazing what a small, short wheelbase jeep can get through without large lift or tires. Although most of the newer jeeps on the rubicon are running 37s, there are still a few early cjs doing fine on 31s. FWIW - you can get BFGs mud-terrain tire in a 33x10.5r15 as well if you are looking for more aggressive tread pattern. But, be aware that many of the traditional (non p-metric) tires sizes are rated at LT, and thus have a bit stiffer sidewall and may make the ride a bit more harsh, and/or lower air pressure might be warranted.
James, I've been tossing this around a bit and have gone back and forth between 31's and 33's.
Here's where I'm at:
When I drove this thing with 33x12.5s on it for the first two weeks of owning it it felt like it had no suspension and I think the wheels/tires were just too heavy for the suspension. Been kicking around on some little 235's on stock TJ Canyon wheels (while I figure out what I want to do) and the ride is enjoyable by comparison. I know these are little trucks and I'm used to driving my oh-so-soft Volvo around so my butt needs to adjust. :lmao:
I've spent some time in the past few days digging through old TJ forum posts about tire sizes (and the seemingly endless debates about the lift/tire combos) and I'm liking what I'm reading about people's experience with a 2in lift and 31's in combination with disconnects and SYE. The consensus is that it'll get you just about anywhere except for the really difficult trails. I also want to avoid putting so-big-a-tire on it that it takes the challenge out of it as well as keeping a LCOG.
Here's a reference for "stance", the lighting is bad but it's the closest thing that represents what I'm going after I will be adding a roof rack at some point as well:

I think you will be happy with the lift and 33's as long as your gearing supports them. I know the closer I get to the right gearing the more I enjoy running the 33"S, I have 4.10s right now a great improvement over 3.07s gears '(great on the trail and closer to great on the highway). I have everything bought and ready to build the axles with 4.55 gears. I think that will be the sweet spot !
With the manual tranny (ax-15)
Congratulations with your rig!!!!

It's a 97 and I have no idea what the gearing is but it does have the AX15. I think I'll put some chromo shafts in with a regear and locker (rear) with a TruTrac (front). That should cover the bases. Also, going with 33x10.5 in a KM3 I think... gotta love skinnys.
If you have factory gearing you might be able to check your build configuration by following these instructions (https://hourlesslife.com/jeep-build-sheet/). Since you have a '97, this may not work for you. I was able to pull a build sheet for my 2005 this way.

I'm extremely happy with my Ko2's 33"x12.5" they are great in all conditions. I like the off road and snow wheeling characteristics the most. And feel that the value $ for $ is better then most tires on the market. Some day I'll have to poney up for another set. I won't hesitate to buy them again.

Bam, there it is. Got it.

KO2's are great. I've been reading through numerous seemingly ancient (circa 2007) forum posts on tire choices, and some more recent youtube videos from the guys at 4Wheeling Australia. I wanted to understand the idea behind tire width in an offroading sense, coming from an autoX/sportscar background. Without writing a blog about the differences it boils down to a) rotational mass/unsprung weight b) clearance c) contact pressure and d) floatation.
I also like the look of skinnies. :D

I like the 33x10.5 since they work with my rig with virtually no rubbing on the stock Canyon wheels and tuck in under the fenders nicely. 12.5" wide tires would require me to get new wheels or wheel spacers. Plus they weigh less, as you've noted.
I refinished a set of 5 8-hole steelies (15x8 3.75BS) this weekend in a satin black rustoleum. I'll be mounting the 33's to them. This thing is gonna look good real soon.

Glad I could help Rick and glad they are going to a good home!! I know you will enjoy the lift, great ride, prefect height for 33's.
Love the look of the black wheels and can't wait to see it all put together! Again, if your missing parts, let me know and I'll dig through my buckets. ;)

If you've got the swaybar disconnect frame-pins laying around let me know. I put the front and rear swaybar links on last night in a whiskey-fuelled fervor and debated just making my own "pins" from some fun bolts found at Ace Hardware (I love that store more than an open bar).
First off, nice TJ :)
Second off I can confirm what James just said. My short wheelbase (slightly longer than a TJ) JL at "stock" (Rubicon trim technically 1" lift) height and 33s was super capable. I'm a big fan of short wheelbase :)

I have them sitting on my work bench. I saw them yesterday when you were here but didnt think of it. PM/text me if you want to stop by or meet up somewhere.
Whiskey fueled fevor? only good decisions come from that ;)

Sure, bring them to the next meet and I'll grab them from ya. Decisions like being productive lol.
Got the winch plate and recovery gear in.

I would but the Jeep is currently in "HoverJeep" mode in the garage.:D
