Re: Hole in the Rock Trail - May 14-18
I've never been to Lake Powell, the Rincon looks pretty cool. As long as it's not to stressful :) I also read a little about this trail a few days ago before the video was posted, the info I was reading was on the government website. The info stated that patrol boats could potentially be waiting for you with a ticket in hand for you. My philosophy is "Some things in life are worth the cost of admission."

[QUOTE=Gearwhine;348141]Where in Denver are you? I am in Sloan's lake. I am very familiar with the np231 (i believe the rock Trac is similar). I'm not going on the trip, but happy to swing by and help you out to get you comfortable to make the trip.

Any luck sorting this out?
Re: Hole in the Rock Trail - May 14-18
Yep, Steve came over last night. Pretty certain it's fixed up for him, but it may need a bit of extra adjustment as the shift linkage/cable breaks in (It's a new Novak cable linkage system).
Since it's a long trip, and that may be a likely case...assure someone has 15/16" / 24mm open ended wrench for the large cable lock nuts, 7/16" wrench for the rod end jam nuts, and 2 x 1/2" wrenches for the rod end attachments to the shift levers. It really wanted precise adjustments to get all the shift points correct. It took more care than I've had to deal with before.

Huge shout out to Nick for getting me up and running last night. Found a little dirt road on the air force base and everything works well so far!
Re: Hole in the Rock Trail - May 14-18
A nice Hole In The Rock documentary (1 hr) though it's queued to 37m57s for the roadway of interest

Be sure to buy and print your pass for Glen canyon recreation area here. It looks like you can buy it now with a start date in the future. I will buy mine tonight.
Re: Hole in the Rock Trail - May 14-18
I just bought mine and you can download it to your phone instead of printing it. Saved on my iPhone 😎
Re: Hole in the Rock Trail - May 14-18
Did a little research on the Rincon trail that Rudy did in the video. Turns out there is a lot of mixed information wether it’s open or closed but it is definitely trafficked. Apparently the trail is open until the area where it descends steeply to Lake Powell. Camping near the lake like they did in the video is ILLEGAL and so is driving to that area. If anything I’d like to drive to the overlook (3 or 4 miles) where the trail starts descending (and becomes illegal to continue) as the views are probably fantastic.
it’s interesting that people would publish a video of themselves driving and camping illegally, and promoting it for others. I wonder if anyone has reported this to Glen Canyon authorities……. In all honesty, this young man (and everyone in his group) should be ticketed and fined and forced to remove from video content.
Thoughts??
Re: Hole in the Rock Trail - May 14-18
I think I would like to know the history of why the Rincon is closed before I would get on board with giving anyone a ticket. There are a lot anti motor sport movements out there that want all trails closed to motorized vehicles and sometimes they succeed, we've seen it happen in Colorado on multiple trails. I'm definitely an outsider looking in but it does seem like this closure is a little extreme. There must be a reason why people continually use this trail knowing that it's closed, it could be full blown rebellion and if that's the case I am on board with the locals who continue to use it, give tours and camp at the lake. I would want to talk to the locals and get their thoughts and talk to the Glen Canyon NRA. I really struggle when government restricts freedom of movement when it causes no harm to any human or living creature.
