2020-11: Best jump starter box
The guy has a lot of detail to cover and wishes to cover it in the quickest reasonable time – he talks quick with short vid clips. What is needed is present w/o un-needed dead time. I added the times to make it easier to jump to an item of interest.

I wish to add one item - from a Car Talk quiz - if you're out alone and find yourself with a battery too low to start your vehicle. Pull a spark plug or two or three (depending how many cyls you have) to where there is less compression resistance. You want enough working cyls to keep the motor running to where you can charge the battery (5 or 10 min at high idle). Then, shut the motor down, re-insert the spark plugs - there should be enough power to start the motor. This assumes the charging system works / is not the cause of the low battery condition.

Re: 2020-11: Best jump starter box
Good info. I have been wanting to get one of these for the wife's car for a while now. I have jumper cables in every other car but she wouldn't know how to use them, she could use one of these.
I wouldn't pull the plugs in a modern computer controlled car as the computer will see the no fire and likely go into limp mode if it will run at all.

Perhaps I should have put my condition to the post: My purpose in any of this is for wheeling solo - if I'm caught out in the forest - away from civilization / cell / CB and it would be a long walk for contact for help. I'd want a second battery to jump - but if not - even if it'd be limp mode - I'd pull plugs if it could start [to get the battery charged for normal operation] vs. having to walk out.
In town / in cell range with help within a couple hours - I could see not pulling plugs.

Hopefully you're somewhere that allows you to simply aim downhill and pop the clutch.

:wrench: :steer: :2thumbup:
(but then, with well established Jeep parking brake issues - mine included - hill parking - not so much - LOL)

The Imazing 2500A is on sale for $80 right now, not sure for how long.
Re: 2020-11: Best jump starter box
Thanks for this video.
That guy does a an excellent job of testing with proper experimental technique.
I do wonder how many cycles these will take given the size and price. The current draw for starting is very stressful on the battery and I’d be pleasantly surprised if they can stand up for more than a few.
Re: 2020-11: Best jump starter box
I stumbled across an alternative idea for managing a low battery -- a small solar panel to trickle charge the battery.
I could see this being useful for long trips where you might worry about the battery running down while camping or for long-term seasonal vehicle storage outdoors https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZJ3WB93
Re: 2020-11: Best jump starter box
Those small panels work for maintaining a charge by replenishing the standby current used by the vehicle plus the internal discharge of the battery. Just don’t expect them to recharge a rundown battery.
Re: 2020-11: Best jump starter box
Doesn't answer the original question, but to Trent's point, one of the things I enjoy about having a couple of house batteries and a 100 watt solar panel is that my panel will trickle charge my batteries, and absolute worst case I can jump my main battery from my auxillary batteries. Since I've done this I haven't had that feeling of "oh crap, did I leave something on". I carried a weego jump box before, but always had the feeling that when I needed it that for some reason it would be dead so it didn't give me the feeling of security that the heavy ass house batteries do.
