Re: Kelly Flats 05/30/2020
"Very busy" doesn't even describe it, there must have been 40 rigs at The Chutes. Still a fun time though. Even though we didn't get to socialize much I was glad to get out with a few from the group. I will definitely not stand in front of a side by side again.

Thanks again to everyone for coming out. It was a lot of fun. I bet Mike could feel the air from that guy's blow-off valve after his throttle snapped shut he was so close. In hindsight, I suppose we should all be a little more cautious around folks with turbocharged side-by-sides.
I should have taken more photos, but i did get a few. One of Max, one of Mike, and another from another rig who must have spent 20 minutes trying to get through the chutes.
Ty may have some more photos. He didn't quite catch the close call, however.
Re: Kelly Flats 05/30/2020
I should also add.... I attempted the obstacle in the first photo, but despite Trent's spotting I ran out of talent and went around. Trent may chime in and say it had something to do with my little 31 inch tires. It's nice of him to suggest an excuse for me, but its a poor craftsman who blames his tools. At least we proved that a little jeep like mine could make it up heart attack hill on the line to the left.
Also... I think we ran into someone who recently joined Frontrange4x4 out there. Wasn't it Peakbagger (Scott)? I could be wrong.

Also only a few shots.

It was a ways from Denver, but I had a good time. Podure Canyon is always a beautiful drive.

I think the issue with that obstacle may have been wheelbase and not tire size. Your TJ was the shortest wheelbase in our group today and the spacing of the holes in that section put you in a tough spot with opposite corner tires struggling to find traction at the same time. With a locker, I think you easily make it based on what I saw. Bigger tires or more suspension travel might have been an adequate substitute to get more traction here as well, bit this wasn't really a clearance issue or inability to get onto an obstacle due to small tires. You made some good attempts at it. I was impressed with your rig and driving considering the low departure clearance and the 31s.
Re: Kelly Flats 05/30/2020
I assume thew rest of the trail past The Chutes was uneventful? Were the mud holes still there or were they dried up?
Re: Kelly Flats 05/30/2020
Yeah, no problems, not much mud either.
Re: Kelly Flats 05/30/2020
I found one good pool of water & mud. I brought some of it home on the roof and hood of my Jeep. Much of the end of the trail was well exposed to the sun and southern sky, so was quite dry.
Re: Kelly Flats 05/30/2020
I was trying to pull my phone out of my pocket when Trent hit that mudhole. It would have been a good picture, but I was a little slow on the draw.
Re: Kelly Flats 05/30/2020
Sorry I'm late to the thread, I've been throwing together video and photos. My photos at the chutes represent some of my worst photography so I apologize for several poorly focused shots:

In that shared album you can see the cell phone footage of the crazy side-by-side rig. Unfortunately my concern for Mikes safety caused me to stop looking at what I was filming and he is out of frame, but you can still hear the screams of terror :)
In this YouTube video is some good footage of Trent getting that LJ up Heart Attack Hill's toughest spot without breaking a sweat and some footage of the cool green TJ goin along the trail. Also Max's JKUR going down some obstacles just fine that I had some scrapes on, and going through some of the water/mud holes towards the end of the trail. The video is "unlisted" on Youtube so only those with a link can see it for now, so if you are in it and don't want to be, send me a PM and I'll edit it before making it public. Same goes for my google photos shared album although that won't be posted publicly.

Thanks for the spots, that was a great trail run.
Re: Kelly Flats 05/30/2020
Thanks for making the video! Are you able to mount the camera so it records in landscape mode? I fell like it would look even better.

You're welcome! Yep, I didn't prepare for filming this trip so I used the previous mount location and just faced the camera forward. Also the camera records in 4k but my video editing software exports in 1080p so next time I'll be editing in software that allows me to output in higher quality.
Re: Kelly Flats 05/30/2020
I usually run two GoPro cameras.
